DC Universe Online...

Thespeckledkiwi

Vice Admiral
So what's the general word on this game? I've seen some screen shots. There was suppose to be 'loot' cards in the game VS but VS looks dead. Did they change the concept?

i dont know much about it, but i an ex-coworker of mine is still working on it, so i dont believe it is dead.

They're still working on DC Universe Online; it's just going painfully slow. You can see the progress in occasional updates on the official site - http://dcuo.station.sony.com/

The latest word is that it will be released sometime around Christmas this year, but I wouldn't put much stock in that. The date has been pushed back and pushed back and pushed back; just a few months ago, they were claiming it would be in stores right now.

Anyway, I've been looking forward to it for a long. I've already created the character I want to use and his back-story; I'm really proud of it and think it will be a fun, playful addition to the game instead of the more "serious" stuff most will probably gravitate to.

It definitely looks like something that would be fun to play. But don't count on it coming out any time soon. Jim Lee, artist of DC's All-Star Batman And Robin and DC Entertainment's new co-publisher, has been the primary artist working on it. And there hasn't been a deadline he hasn't repeatedly missed in the last decade. I think it is pretty obvious the guy has ADHD or something.

It'd be awesome if they released a game where I could make blatant rip-off characters and not get in trouble for it unlike CO, COH/COV.

Resurrecting this thread to say that I was accepted into the beta just a little bit ago. Currently patching up (approximately 440mb done out of 13.1gb), so who knows if I'll have time to log in tonight and start checking it out.

Is it wrong that I expect the worst from every MMO? These things have to hit the ground running at full speed in order to even have a chance as a pay-to-play MMO, and any types of delays always leads me to expect very little.

Pretty much anyone making a new MMO that is not looking at a free to play model with paid upgrades these days is an idiot. Blizzard sold over three million Cataclysm boxes in 24 hours. WoW continues to be the 800 pound gorilla in the center of the ring that makes everyone from video game producers to accountants pee themselves.

^It's funny that you would say free to play is the wave of the future when you cite WoW as the game to beat. (which is definitely not free to play).

It's not a double-standard, it's realistic. At this point in time I really don't see any other new, subscription-based MMORPGs surviving while WoW is king of the hill.

Anyone playing the beta? It was just released for all Playstation Plus subscribers. It's a 16GB download, so it took a good 5 hours to d/l on my connection.

I'm enjoying the hell out of it so far. My character is called Reactor, his powers are fire-based, with flight. I can shoot fire beams out of my hands and throw fireballs at enemies. Have done a mission with the Flash against Gorilla Grodd. I think I'm at level 7 so far. Looking forward to getting back on later and putting a few more hours into it.

I've only logged in two or three times, but it's interesting so far. I made a character "inspired" by Green Arrow, with Batman as my mentor, so I don't have powers, per se, though acrobatics is classified under powers. No clue what level I'm at, though I believe my next mission is to aid Batwoman against a Scarecrow plot.

This may be a dumb question, but does anyone know how you check your mail in this bloody game? The info box in the bottom left corner keeps telling me I have new mail, and there's an envelope icon below my map in the top right, but I can't find where I go to read it. I'm hoping I'm just tired and missing the obvious.

I checked my mail once (when the game told me to) in a GCPD precinct station. I'm assuming the precinct was my "hub" since my mentor is Batman, so maybe you could check at your hub.

How difficult are the controls using the PS3 or are you keyboard/mouseing it?

I'm just using the PS3 controller, and it's pretty easy to get to grips with. It plays, and controls, like an open-world hack n' slash. Standard Square and Triangle attacks, with triggers providing special moves and abilities, shoulder buttons for blocking and locking on targets...etc.

You'll be able to make a Green Lantern type character in the final game, but it's not yet available in Beta. I've been fighting through a Green Lantern / Sinestro Corps battle, though; and I think they did a good job with it. It's been the most fun scenario in the game for me so far.

So far, my disappointment with the game is the level cap (mostly because you can't progress to more stories until your level goes up). This is mostly a Beta problem, though; but I'm hearing that the level is going to be capped at 30 when the game really does go live.

There are so many advantage of having this game. you can write between the game it means while you are playing it is accessible to write anything in the screen. So you can pass the message to your player directly in the game. This is the main advantage for ever. This is really amazing and outstanding.

Why do the spam bots even bother writing anything at all? Just write your advertisement in full and move on.
