World's Finest has some images and details from the first DC Showcase animated short, The Spectre, which will be included on Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths when it's released next month.

Here are three images from the short:

The short is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos and written by Steve Niles. The voice cast is led by Gary Cole as The Spectre/Jim Corrigan and Alyssa Milano as Aimee Brenner.

The next DC Showcase short is expected to be Jonah Hex, written by Joe R. Lansdale, attached to Batman: Under the Red Hood.

Cool, we're getting shorts along with the feature presentation! That's great, especially since the past few DCU releases have had no bonus features to speak of, just reruns of the previews for past releases. Although I'll still be upset if we don't get commentaries.

Very cool. I'm not a big animation buff, but I've always had an irrational fascination with the Spectre. Definitely have to check this out . . . .

Be interested to see what they do with this. The Spectre's a difficult character for superhero comics because he's essentially all-powerful (a complaint often raised against Superman, but it's pretty literally true here: he's the avenging angel of God, hence no cosmic force can really oppose him). The most effective stories with him (John Ostrander's famous series and the more recent Greg Rucka stuff with the new version) are morality plays, not action dramas.
