DC or Marvel? Which do you prefer?

Marvel, which is about people who just happen to have powers and wear costumes as opposed to DC where it's about the superhero personas first and foremost with not much emphasis put on the non-hero personas. At least until DC decided to ape that back in the mid 80s.

I used to like DC because I loved the war comics they produced such as GI Combat and SGt Rock, but since they dont really put them out anymore except for a few specials now and then I don't care for them much.

I like both, since both companies have their share of great and lame characters and both seem to be plagued by the same BS from time to time. I tend to enjoy the cosmic level stuff like Silver Surfer and Green Lantern more than earth based stuff since it is more resistant to BS stuff like civil war and other big events.

Marvel.

I just can't gel to DC's characters, despite having the all-time great in Batman. Superman? Insufferable. Wonder Woman? Ridiculous. Then a vast field of unknowns. Marvel's characters aren't as big, but they're broader, diverse, expansive. DC is like a city with three skyscrapers overlooking a ghetto. Marvel has nothing to match that grandiose architecture, but it has large, distinct, vibrant neighbourhoods I like to take leisurely strolls through.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

MARVEL

DC has some great characters, but I've always found Marvel's more human and down-to-Earth (Even Marvel's god characters are more earthly). I also prefer the storytelling in Marvel comics, and Marvel has my favorite heroes ever, The Fantastic Four. Can't turn my back on them.
I think you mean the Future Foundation. ;)

:barf:

Dude, you ruined my moment.

I will wait patiently until saner heads prevail and it goes back to FANTASTIC FOUR the way God intended.

Neither one is producing anything I have any interest in. Marvel canceled Ms Marvel and She Hulk; I have never really cared for team books as there are always too many characters I don't care to read about. I used to buy Wonder Woman, but since Rucka left I haven't liked a thing about the title. Their 3'rd volume relaunch was quite simply intolerable all the way through. JMS/Hester Wonder is just an unnecessary story when the 3'rd volume variously set Wonder Woman up alone from her gods and people at least 3 times. It's a hamster wheel of a plot. Their Flashpoint reveals just make me convinced that DC has nothing to offer of interest.

Well, the Future Future Foundation is apparently around in the 3,141,592,653...I guess that means the name has some staying power...even though they don't seem so futuristic as they've forgotten how a lot of stuff works...

i like both. though lately i've went from reading mostly DC to mostly Marvel. i still keep up with Brightest Day, but have dropped everything else for the moment.

Up until the past couple years my only real exposure to the companies was from their movies and TV shows, and for those I used to go more for Marvel. But now that I'm starting to get into the comics themselves, I'm split pretty evenly. I think my favorites from what I've read and seen so far would be Spider-Man, Batman, X-Men, Superman, Green Lantern (so far I've only seen First Flight and read Rebirth #1, but I really liked them both so I'm pretty sure the Corps will be a favorite of mine as I get into the comics more), Capt. America (I've only read Out of Time #1 by Ed Brubaker, but I really liked it) and I really like Iron Man in the movies and Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, but I haven't read any IM comics yet.

Marvel comics were good and innovative in the 1960s and 1970s. I have considerable fondness for Marvel of that time period. I've read them from time to time since, and simply can't give a fuck about most of what they produce.

Make Mine Marvel! But I have to agree about the slide in quality since all the resets buttons that started being pushed in 1996. The old back issues of the 60's and 70's were the best.:techman:

The thing is, at that time Marvel really was a refreshing change in approach to both story and art. Now it's simply different...sometimes.

Nah, Kirby is God.

I lean more towards DC primarily because of Batman being my number one super hero. From there the "Bat-family" of comics spreads out quite a bit and I pick most of them up.

In terms of Marvel, I'll read some of the "events" such as "Civil War". I'm also a fan of Deadpool because the best Deadpool stuff manages to balance action with silliness, which is not an easy feat in writing. More recently, I have been enjoying some of the "Noir" books from Marvel (Spider-Man, Iron Man and Daredevil so far).
