All systems for counting time are artificial. Before the industrial age, every town, village and hamlet set its clocks by the sun. The coming of the railroads and the need for uniform train schedules made standard time necessary. Personally, I wouldn’t mind having DST all year round, but that would mean some people would be driving to work in the dark during the winter. And schoolchildren would be walking or taking the bus to school in the dark.
Of course, we wouldn’t have to switch our clocks back and forth every year if we could just find a way to get rid of the tilt of the Earth’s axis.

I know that some states in Australia gain a hour some time later in the month, as DST ends.
I refuse to participate in this any longer! No one is taking an hour away from me!

I don't really give a shit about the sunlight. I give a shit about the hour of sleep I'm missing out on...or, if I decide to get the same amount of sleep, the hour of productivity I am missing out on the next day.

Anyway, I'm a night person, so Daylight Saving Time benefits me. I hate having to switch the description of time from EST to EDT, but that's about it. My clock came unplugged, so I'm just going to sleep in tomorrow and not worry about setting the appropriate time until after.

Me too, man. Having to stay up later means I'll end up sleeping in. I HATE staying up past 7pm. How will I wake up at 5:30am??
Oh well, at least it's not July yet. Around here it stays light until 9pm then. 9pm!! Hell, if I'm gonna stay up that late, why go to bed at all??
I get really bitchy when the temp goes above 65F, so that's probably unwise. Here I can be pleasant at least half the year.
What's the big issue with that? Most of the winter, it's dark going to work/school and it's dark going home. We cope just fine.
That being said, we really should abolish switching between Daylight Saving Time and Standard Time. Pick one and stick with it. I can't believe I'm saying this, but Saskatchewan is the only sensible province in this country. In this particular topic only, of course.
