I think I recall Kate saying something similar in how somethings required her to overact to make fictional things come accross as real while underplaying others. Seven & the Doc. did have larger than life personalities, even Neelix to some degree. Kes was the only one that was kinda subdued.That's interesting of him to say. I wonder exactly how accurate it was?
I had heard that years ago. That the "humans" were told to downplay so that the "non-humans" would seem more real. Or some crap like that.
Which explains why the show slowed down, why the EMH and Seven roles expanded (they were the only ones with emotions), and why Janeway seemed schizo (she was only allowed to show extreme emotions--ONLY extreme ones).
Makes me feel bad for the fans and the actors. Imagine being an actor and being told to underplay to the point of insults from fans for being "wooden." I suppose it did help the directing careers of McNeil and Dawson.
