Davy Jones R.I.P

This is sad news. I echo N.M., I grew up with Trek and The Monkeys. And cooleddie is spot on regarding Chekov.

I saw the Monkees in concert several times during their 1986 tour.

Their show debuted 4 days after Star Trek's debut episode (September 12, 1966).

RIP, Davy. :( Thanks for decades of great music, and great memories.

Oh, that is such bad news for me. I loved Davy, he was my favorite. I was a "tween" when "The Monkees" premiered. I "owned" the TV when they were on.

RIP, Davy. And condolences to your family.

Appropriate that we're talking about this on a TREK board. Davy was, after all, the key inspiration for putting Pavel Chekov on the original show. Screw all that "the Russians were in space first" P.R. crap...it was Davy and the Monkees that helped give us our favorite Enterprise navigator.
Davy also played the Artful Dodger on Broadway in the musical Oliver! (earning a Tony nomination) and appeared with the cast on the episode of Ed Sullivan Show that introduced the Beatles to America. He's also the reason David Bowie exists.

Absolutely! Davy's been more of an influence on pop culture than Forrest Gump or Zelig.

The Monkees were a big part of my childhood in the 60s - required holiday viewing. It's all going away...

Good job, that man.

Old news, he died in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.

Oh, right. Different guy.

He helped Scooby and the gang outwit that frog monster. Anyone that helps Scooby and the gang is okay...even Scrappy.
