I think he'd work better as Gollum.
I'd be thrilled with either Tennant or McAvoy. Both age great actors well-suited to the role. The skinnyness can be worked around. Elijah Wood, Dominic Monaghan, and Billy Boyd were all on the skinny side as well, and it didn't make one bit of difference on screen. Hobbits with Fallohide blood, like Bilbo, are, after all, taller and more slender.
Radcliff... he's not bad, but I'd rather they didn't. A bit too young... and I wouldn't be sure what to make of him in anything other than Harry Potter. Plus I've seen his penis.
Yes, I know its a rumor, which is why my hopes were purely speculative. As for being too tall - I'm sure the scaling issues could be worked around. Perhaps less easily than with a shorter actor, but if having the right man in the role is that important to them and Tennant is that right man, I can't see how his height would make it an outright impossibility. It's all just a rumour - the filmmakers have denied Tennant has been cast, and GDT reiterated that Bilbo won't be cast until the first draft of the script is done.
I adore Tennant, but he's too tall to make the scale double thing work.
First time around the hobbit casting call specified actors 5'7" or under.
I've come to accept the fact that Ian Holm simply won't work. However, I hope del Toro will follow up his own suggestion of having Holm narrate the film(s).How about Ian Holms? Just a thought.
Yeah, I heard about both of those. I certainly would love to see either of them popping up on the film(s).Funny enough, the other Scottish Dr Who, Sly McCoy, apparently auditioned for the role when LOTR was being made, while Tom Baker was supposedly interested in the role of Gandalf.
And assuming del Toro is indeed showing us what Gandalf was up to during the book, we will see Radagast. Tom Baker as Radagast would be delicious.I rather think Tom Baker would be much better as Radagast than Gandalf. One assumes he was in the council of white, or whatever it was that Gandalf ran off to mid way through the hobbit.
How about Simon Pegg as Bilbo? He has carried movies before and he has Hobbit like features.

I think he'd work better as Gollum.
He kind of already has played Gollum in Dr Who, in that episode where The Master aged him ...
