David Tennant returns to Big Finish yet again for Dalek Universe

Brendan Moody

Vice Admiral
Admiral
A nine-episode “season” in which the Tenth Doctor battles Daleks, Movellans, Mechonoids, and Davros alongside two agents of the Space Security Service, one of whom is Anya Kingdom, a companion of the Fourth Doctor from previous Big Finish stories.

There’s also a prequel story featuring the Fourth Doctor and Leela.

I’m a little leery of drowning the Tenth Doctor in classic series nostalgia like this, but I’m still pumped.

Wow, Big Finish slow down! Buy me coffee is enough!
Then again, in this time of Covid how can you go wrong with these? I listened to the one he did with Tom Baker which was recorded during lockdown and it was amazing.

That's just it. Audios are an entertainment medium which can continue unhindered during the pandemic, so why not go full tilt?
Production can continue unhindered. But if people aren't traveling, that's a lot of listening time lost; they risk overwhelming the audience.

The listening time is lost if people only listen to Big Finish because they’re traveling, and will spend that time on other things if they’re at home. Considering how expensive Big Finish is relative to other forms of audio entertainment, I doubt there are many people who only buy their product to fill up the commute when they could just as easily download a podcast or put on some music.

Dunno. I've probably got a hundred hours or so of listening to do...

Although, with the possibility of another lockdown looming, people are going to have a lot of free time on their hands.

Somehow I'm not surprised to find out that I'm doing Big Finish wrong. ;)

I know it's not the cheapest way to spend the time (even a pure audiobook would be better value), but it's not like I can listen to the audios while doing work. I've tried, and both end up suffering.

I started out listening to audios when I was running and in particular going for long runs during marathon training. These days I work from home and I find it helps listening to the audios as the silence of an empty room day after day leaves me with very loud thoughts that are far more distracting. Long journeys the audios are welcome too but surprisingly I can concentrate on them best at work!

The first volume of this came out today, while yesterday saw the release of the Fourth Doctor/Leela prequel, Dalek Universe: The Dalek Protocol: Did We Mention It Has Daleks In? I’m listening to the latter now; if for some reason “Nick Briggs writes a formulaic sequel to ‘Death to the Daleks’” was on your personal wishlist, boy is this the story for you.

I haven't seen "Death to the Daleks", so a sequel was definitely not on my wishlist. That said, I thought The Dalek Protocol was fine. It was a better introduction to Mark Seven and (re)introduction to Anya Kingdom than Queen of the Mechanoids, and it had some nice character moments between Anya and Leela.
