Do you think they designed the set before or after he got the job?

Holy bleep, that looks awesome! Great proof of concept. The concentric hexagonal structure meshed with the stone-style wall adjacent to it really looks slick, and usually I dislike the styles that look more like dragon slaying castles than bright expansive ships, but that one's actually brill and I wish Eccleston had that instead of the tree trunk stuff (which didn't even have ivy wrapped around them a la the Cloister Room from "Logopolis", good grief).

Hmmm, light green lighting? But teal/green/orange is so ubiquitous nowadays... Purple might work since the lighting isn't overblown across the set and limited to backlighting or strips. Mix in some 5000k lights too to keep it from getting too pushed in any single direction (too dank or too Halloween).

Now let's see a console (does it descend into the hexagonal structure behind the Doctor?), then some corridors to other rooms to really show an expansive feel. Maybe a different costume, or at least add adornments to the costume show how a wide palette of 10,240,000,000,000 colors or more can be more and other than shades of teal and orange. Monochromatic or duochromatic palettes are just as boring as the B&W from 100 years ago and yet people claim the old stuff needs to be colorized because they can't sit through B&W... oddly... (that said, I still dig the TARDIS interior background...)

Maybe the Disney host wants to have a multitude of Doctors (and accompanying Tardes) of varying ages all over the cosmos, to support lots of plots.

I don't like it.

Yeah, definitely getting TARDIS vibes from that. I wonder if whoever designed the set did that on purpose or if it's just a coincidence?

Could go either way. The set for the original South Korean version of the show is similar, but some of the specifically TARDIS-y aspects are new. But on the other hand, there have been so many console rooms, it's not that hard to accidentally echo elements of different versions.

That's where the downtown bar comes in handy... :shifty:
:guffaw:
Which begs the real question of how future incarnations, without time lord mind wipes and all, not know the basics of their own craft? Previous incarnations had the technical manual.
Or the show's become self-parody when that quip was made.
Most likely it was a meta thing. Not a meta-crisis thing mind you.....;)

A few of today's postmodern shows do seem to have a more proactive thing for self-referential stuff as if it's somehow edgy. Generally used by sitcoms in the past (and often done well), it has lost a bit of flair nowadays due to what feels like overuse of the trope regardless of genre, especially if it feels templated, even if the 1990s first dug into it - and was just as lampooned by Poochie at the time. Some love it because it's breaking the wall, some don't for the same reason, then are those in the middle.

I just choose to believe that the Doctor has been doing the obfuscating stupidity routine for so long s/he'll even try it on themselves and the fun ones will play along.

Only really old incarnations are not down with this, like One or Chef!Doctor. Or pompous ones like Three or Six.

Seven will play along but think he's above such games.

Game show or not—I could see that as a Meta-crisis Valyard TARDIS.

It looks evil.

you are the weakest link, Doc-tor
