David Slade Will Direct Daredevil for Fox

I dont loathe the first one but look forward to another. His rogues gallery is very limited however.

Yeah I am kind of interested in another movie. The first film was flawed, the director's cut being better than the theatrical cut. Ben Affleck was fine as Matt Murdock. His rouges gallery has been improved during the Bendis and Ed Brubaker who introduced a bunch of new characters and revamped old villains. Most people I think are aware of the Kingpin and Bullseye.

The original Daredevil film should have been much better than it was, but I do think the character suffers from being very similar in many respects to two much more popular mainstream superheros (Spidey and Batman) with very successful film franchises. It will be tricky, I think, to make this film stand out.

I enjoyed the first Daredevil film, especially the extended edition. When compared with other superhero movies, I think it outranks the first and third X-Men movies, both Hulk movies, all the Tim Burton Batman movies, and all Superman movies after Superman II, just to name a few. Relatively speaking that's a significant accomplishment. People will disagree with my ranking of DD here, no doubt.

All that said, I had no expectations, which is to say there was nothing in particular I expected to see in it. I read DD back in the 70's when I was a kid, so I was well aware of his origin and powers. I missed the Frank Miller DD and haven't caught up on that, but I respect Miller, especially for The Dark Knight Returns, which I do have and love.

What exactly are your alls' disappointments with the first DD film?

I think most of the bad reputation of the Affleck flick came from the really bad editing of the theatrical version. I haven't seen it in several years (as I now own the far superior Director's Cut), but I remember that I couldn't make sense of the plot. In the theatrical version, we never find out how the cops suddenly know Fisk is the Kingpin.
Aside from that, the bad rep certainly comes from some rather campy sequences, like when Bullseye shattered that church window and used the shards as ammunition. And, of course, there're always people that hate any young good-looking Hollywood actor, regardless of how well he plays or in how many Kevin Smith films he's been in.

Not sure about the reboot (which sounds more like a "requel" like "The Incredible Hulk"). Haven't seen any of Slade's movies, so I'm indifferent to him being picked.

Hmm... I liked Hard Candy, but Eclipse was the worst movie of last year. It made Twilight and New Moon look like Oscar winners. I got bored with 30 Days of Night.

Are they sure they don't want to try The Punisher one more time? ;)

Hard Candy was a great debut. I still haven't seen Eclipse and I don't really have any desire. This could be interesting. Perhaps it was a consolation prize for losing Wolverine?

You could easily continue this franchise under the guise of a reboot. Just have Kingpin coming out of prison and then ruining Matt Murdock's life a'la 'Born Again'.

I'm game for another Daredevil movie. I agree with several points already made. The first movie had editing issues which I think compounded the 'feel' of too much going on. The theatrical cut is much better. If you haven't seen it, try it. An entire plot line that clears things up a lot is what is missing, down side from a run time perspective is it's about 20+min of footage.

DD is like a hybrid of Spidey & Batman which is probably why Frank Miller also did such a good job with the character.

I'm not an Affleck fan by a long shot but DD is on the short list of his films where I think he pulls off a good performance.

I like this quote from the OP's link.
...is described as a "continuation" of the superhero story, but won't refer to anything from the 2003 Daredevil starring Ben Affleck.
I'm glad to see this as a trend. Incredible Hulk did it, Wolverine 2 and Ghost Rider 2 are doing it and Daredevil is following that trend.

I wish Amazing Spiderman had. There is no reason for us to revisit the High School story of Parker so close to the Raimi saga. I wish Fantastic Four would do it but we shall see.

I'm in the minority that liked the first one but for a looooooooong time I've been under no illusions about Affleck returning. I'm happy to see the character return and I think they could do worse than Slade. I'll watch news about this movie with interest.

After "Gone Baby Gone" and "The Town" ... I'd be kind of intrigued to see what Affleck would do with the property.

I liked the first one well enough, but it didn't really leave me wanting more of that take on the character. I'm happy to hear about this reboot. I wish that Michael Clarke Duncan could get another shot at Kingpin but I doubt that's going to happen.
