David (Harry Potter) Yates to direct Doctor Who The Movie!

3. No new Doctor Who on TV. I think Hollywood has learned from the disaster that was Star Trek not to have a movie and a TV show at the same time. Three years. Hmm that's the length of Smith's run. I suspect maybe a 6 month break between the TV show and the movie.

Some might ask why the BBC would do this. It's free money Duh?! If the movie succeeds the BBC doesn't have to waste it's own money making Doctor Who. If it doesn't, they'll probably just reboot the series early and hire a new production staff. Win Win for the Beeb.

4. What the fans want doesn't matter. If Star Trek proved one thing, movie makers refuse to listen to fans as a point of pride. Yates made it clear, the movie isn't going to be part of the TV continuity. Which pretty much means the TV continuity is now official dead (except for BF but they only have the license for 5 years).

No one in Hollywood has the authority to tell BBC Television to pull one of its most succesful shows just so they can make a movie. And the show is still a success, and as long as it stays one the TV show and its continuity aren't going anywhere.

If I was a gambler, I would put money on either Johnny Depp or Simon Pegg.

Simon Pegg rather emphatically posted on Twitter he wants nothing to do with this movie.

Well that's a relief,.

Of course Pegg once said all odd numbered Star Trek films were rubbish too ;)

I can't see Pegg as the Doctor, much as I like the guy I don't think he's a good enough actor.

Depp I liked a lot more before he was in everything.

Sheen as the Doctor has some potential.

Well to each their own, I actually liked Trek 09, its probably my fourth favourite of all 11 films and was way better that I was expecting it to be.

Pegg was the worst thing in it though...

it wasn't even my 11th favourite.

First Contact
Voyage Home
Undiscovered Country
Wrath of Khan
Search for Spock
Generations
Insurrection
Nemesis
Final Frontier
Motionless Picture

Galaxy Quest was a better fucking Star Trek movie than JJ Trek.

Master & Commander is the best Star Trek film followed by Galaxy Quest.
Yes! People have looked at me funny when I've said it before, but I absolutely believe that Master & Commander: The Far Side of the World is the best of the Star Trek movies. (I also believe that it was the better movie of 2003 -- yes, I was thrilled that The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King won Best Picture, but it's not a better movie than M&C.) M&C hits all of the "Star Trek buttons." It also demonstrates convincingly that a Star Trek movie doesn't need a "Big Bad." Yes, there's a "bad guy" in M&C, but it's a faceless villain and the movie doesn't waste its time trying to personify it.

Well mine would probably go something like this

1. TWOK
2. TUC
3. First Contact
4. Trek09
5. TVH
6. The Motion Picture
7. Insurrection
8. The final Frontier
9. TSFS
10. Generations
11. Nemesis

It's really gratifying to hear people talk about Galaxy Quest and Master and Commander as great Star Trek films, for a long time I thought it was just me! M&C shows how possible it is to blend warefare/exploration and interesting characters, and is sadly a way better Trek film than most of the Next Gen efforts.
