David Gregory becomes host of Meet the Press.

Having recently re-read Tim Russert's autobiography, "Big Russ and Me," it is bittersweet to finally see a new host of Sunday morning's newsmagazine institution.

I expect that David Gregory, however, despite his light-hearted, soft demeanor, will continue the tradition of hard-news journalism, intelligent conversation and honest, sometimes piercing questions that Tim Russert made hallmarks of Meet the Press.

Thoughts?

This is awesome news! Shortly after Tim had passed, my boyfriend and I had a long discussion on who we thought should take over the position, and we both came to the conclusion that David Gregory would be best. Glad to see they read my mind!

David Gregory is the most horrid choice one can ever make for the role, he is just lame. Even on his show whatever they named it this week, he never asks the hard questions, never try to get the answer out of them, he just moves on.

Terrible pick by NBC, but I didn't expect better from them, it's NBC after all.

That's fantastic news. David Gregory is one of the best newsmen NBC has. I'm glad they're doing what they can to hold on to him, as I'm sure ABC and CBS will make a big grab for him if one of their nightly newscasts open up.

I'm not a huge fan of Gregory, but I think he'll work hard to do a good job on MTP.

That said, this choice screams of NBC making the safe decision. I would have preferred Chuck Todd or someone more out of left field.

Another Chuck Todd supporter here, but I knew it would probably come down to either David Gregory or Andrea Mitchell. Gregory has always come across as a bit smarmy, and his MSNBC show didn't impress me much, but he certainly was a pistol in the White House Press Room, and hopefully some of that doggedness will resurface as he takes the reins of Meet the Press.

DG trying to fill Tim Russert's shoes is... *sigh* ...pathetic?

Sad. Truly sad. NBC has some talent. Why give it to the wooden David Gregory?

He couldn't make any show or coverage they gave him work. If not for my love of MSNBC via Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow I'd have not even watched on election night.

Hope I'm wrong, but I think Meet the Press just followed Russert to the grave as far as serious hard-hitting journalism goes.
