Dating site for "beautiful people" bans holiday fatties

It's about time. All those chubby holiday fatties have been cramping my online dating style. We beautiful people should be free to pursue dates from the privacy of our computers without all you holiday-poundage hog thumpers trying to slide by with excessive yuletide nog pouches.

I've been using this picture of myself lately will some success:

I know some of you may be joking but I find the practices of that website... appalling. Next thing you know they will only be allowing blond hair and blue eyes.

And Danoz, you are much to cute yourself to be using that poser Tom Cruise as your image. Besides, even after all the money he has spent on his face, he is just not all that attractive anyway. If you insist on using an alternate image, maybe you should try Johnny Depp or Karl Urban or Jamie Bamber.

So this site now has zero users? Beautiful people don't need web site dating services.

Privately owned site...they can do whatever they want.

Not exactly. eHarmony was forced to provide services to gay customers. The only reason this site can get away with it is because discrimination on the basis of appearance isn't illegal.

Anyone concieted enough to sign up for a site like that gets their just desserts (how punny) when they're kicked off for slipping into holiday 'fattie'-dom.

Methinks its all a prank.

How could they be forced? As Alpha pointed out they are a privately owned site.

(Don't misunderstand, I'm glad they were forced, I'm just wondering how.)

They were sued. A court decided they were in violation of anti-discrimination laws. Thus, they have been forced to offer their services to gays.

I know they were sued, I'm just wondering *how* a privately owned, entirely optional website can be sued. If it's legal for the Boy Scouts, for example, to discriminate, then why is eHarmony being targeted?

And again: Don't confuse my question with an advocacy of discrimination. Like I said, I'm glad eHarmony was forced to do this. I'm just wondering how the legal maneuvering worked here.

There are anti-discrimination laws on the books.

I'm curious about this now, too.

How the hell can eHarmony get sued for this? If they only want to hook up straight people, that is their right. It's not like there aren't gay dating sites out there.

Now, if they were hiring/firing staff members based on sexual orientation, that would be a whole different story.
