"Datalore": why?

Lore just simply seems to lack motive and reason.

Not necessarily. The Crystalline Entity feeds on living matter.

Lore is an artificial lifeform.

He may have had a grudge against organic life, due to the fact he was set aside by his human creator.

Which is another 'Huh?' A silicon-based lifeform feeds by consuming organic - ie, carbon/water-based matter?

The process is not quite like "eating" as such. The Entity is apparently able to convert any organic life in to energy which it then uses to sustain itself.

Lore and Galactus...er...Crystalline Entity.

Lore was acting a like a Soong...Arik Soong, the eugenics wars foster parent. Nutty bunch the lot of them. Even Noonian Soong seemed to recount nothing but pride that he escaped a "giant snowflake" even as everyone else died.

Now that I think about it, it does sound kind of funny.

Data (lore): Let's beam out a tree and destroy it, that'll show it we mean business!

Picard: Hmm, yes a tree. It'll fear our ability to blow apart wood, Make it so Mr. Data

(Picard sits down in chair confidant that the tree plan will work)

Data/Lore goes to dig up a tree from the arboretum (in Picard's mind)

Data/Lore: What a dumbass, CE you're feast awaits!

CE: Umm, they think I'll be scared of them blowing up a tree, they're too dumb to eat.

Early TNG can be hilarious.

It's been some time since I saw this, but I'm quite sure that Lore says that the CE rewarded him nicely when he delivered the colonists and his reward would be that much better when he delivers the crew of the ship.
Which begs the question of how the colonists had time to dismantle him after the CE attacked. Or was this addressed?

The reward thing is a bit confusing. What Lore actually says is this:

Lore: "And let us toast also the great Crystal Entity with whom I learned to communicate. Before Dr. Soong disassembled me, I earned its gratitude by revealing the way to the colonists. Can you image its gratitude when I give it the life on this vessel?"

The "reward", if any, was apparently of very abstract sort, a mere expression of gratitude. Or then the lunatic android simply imagined that the CE would be grateful, should be grateful.

It's not known how much time passed between the communication and Lore's disassembly, but obviously enough for Soong to dismantle the android and then escape from the planet when the CE approached. Perhaps nobody even knew that Lore had summoned the entity? Soong admits no such knowledge in "Brothers" when Data makes the accusation; Juliana Tainer in "Inheritance" says she knows that Lore turned against them, but doesn't clarify - and she also says that Lore was generally cruel, so perhaps the turning-against thing she speaks about was something else than the CE betrayal.

A thought just occured to me: why was Lore in league with the Crystaline Entity? What was he getting from this? Why in the world should it spare him?

I had always looked at it from hte perspective of Lore just simply being evil, but looking back at hispremediated deception and lies, it just seems silly to do all this without a reason. Goodness knows he doesn't need anybody but himself to take over the ship, if that was what he wanted.

Lore just simply seems to lack motive and reason.

:vulcan:

Not really that hard to figure out....Lore wanted a way to go beyond being a "puppet" for Soong. Perhaps the entity provided a higher purpose. Add to that resentment for the colonists, and he had no reason not to want revenge.
