Data episodes where he's the only member of the crew unaffected?

ReadyAndWilling

Fleet Captain
hey guys, i really like the episodes where data is the only one unaffected by a threat from outside or inside the ship. i just finished watching 'clues' after a recommendation from Alrik and it was great to see Data take control of the ship once he realised the whole ship was incapacitated.

what are some other episodes like this?

thanks

Pretty much EVERY Data-centric episode was a good one, thanks to Spiner's performance.

Well... except for Masks of course.

I'm not sure if this works, but the first half of Brothers and his taking over the ship scenes.

In Genesis, Data is the only crew member not affected by the retrovirus. Picard begins to show signs of the de-evolution before Data eventually saves the day.

"The Game", Data would be the only who would not be affected by the game's mind-control properties so the "brain-washed" Riker, Geordi and Crusher deactivate him. (He's later re-activated by Wesley and Robin Lefler and ends up saving the day.)

"The Ensigns of Command" might also apply, Data is the only member of the crew who would not be affected by the radiation on the planet and is sent down to negotiate the removal of the colonists on the planet (who've somehow adapted to the planet's radiation.)

"Angel One", Data is the only one not effected by the aromatic virus spreading around the ship.

"Clues", Data is the only one who could not be knocked out and have his memory wiped by the xenophobic aliens so he's ordered by Picard to keep the events of the episode secret.

One of the few circumstances where the crisis of the week does effect data:

"Schisms" where the inter-dimensional aliens are able to kidnap Data, presumably experiment on him, and put him back on the ship with his memory erased.

Data NOT affected:
"Genesis"
"The Game"
"Starship Mine"

The three episodes that came to my mind in that order.

Data and no one else affected:
"Phantasms"
"Masks"

great, thanks. i'm looking through them now.

what are some other eps other than 'data's day' which are real testaments to his character?

I never found Data's Day or In Theory (where he enters into a romantic relationship with another crewmember) to have been the best Data episodes. With Data's Day I always got the feeling that it was shot during a week where it was very rainy in LA and everyone just had the "blah" feeling from the rain, and even though they were trying to be upbeat, everyone just seemed flat. Plus, I don't like how Keiko Ishikawa (O'Brien at the end of the episode) just sort of appears and is getting married to O'Brien. It would've been nice to have seen her maybe appear earlier in the season as just Keiko Ishikawa, and let us get to know her before she married Miles O'Brien.

And In Theory just didn't seem to handle the romance thing that good for Data. I realize that Spiner was suppose to try to bring chemistry to the story, but without being emotional, and explore how Data would handle a romantic relationship, but it just didn't work. But I think that Data's romance should've been a couple of B-plots worked into different episodes throughout the season instead of just one whole episode devoted to it. And even as a kid I was more interested in the spatial anomaly, but that didn't even get me as interested as Data's B-plot story in the DS9/TNG crossover in Season 6.

Suffice it to say, I find Data's Day and In Theory to be the worst episodes of Season 4.

Hell, while you're at it check out "Sub Rosa" and "Shades of Gray" both, also, better than Masks.

I'd say the list of episodes containing an effect which affects all the relevant crew, with the exception of Data are

Clues = Alien stun field
Night Terrors - Lack of REM sleep
Sarek - Negative telepathic overflow
The Perfect Mate - Alien pheromones
Genesis - Retrovirus
The Game - Addictive effects of game play
Starship Mine - Hypersonic pulse

Unnatural Selection, could be included, as he proves immune to the mutated antibody, though it only gets the chance to affect Pulaski & the station inhabitants. I think that's it. Not sure if I missed any though

Actually, I might even include Chain of Command, as Data seems to be the only one unaffected by Jellico's attitude

I can't say Cause & Effect qualifies, because he IS affected by the temporal loop just like everyone else, but they are able to use his special atributes to overcome the situation, & if we start counting those episodes too, we'll be doubling or tripling the episode count. Hell, even including his ability to tap into the Borg Collective in BoBW, was him saving the day by being more awesome than the rest of the crew

what are some other eps other than 'data's day' which are real testaments to his character?

Fistful Of Datas
is one of the ones where Data is not only the one primarily affected, he literally is the affect
