Darren Aronosfky doing a comic-book version of his Batman script?

Nothing surreal about guys who dress up as bats and clowns and fight at night. Nope.

That depends on which version of Batman you're after, which is why I cited Arkham Asylum which plays up the surreal aspects of the mythos to perfection. Year One, on the other hand, plays to a much more naturalistic version - why would anyone want naturalistic Aronofsky? That's not his thing.

^ That's not to say that he couldn't do "naturalistic". "The Wrestler" showed he could do a dark and gritty Batman movie.

Never saw The Wrestler and forgot it was Aronofsky. And would still rather see him do Arkham Asylum. He's probably the only known director out there who could do that book justice, while there are several who can do a "dark and gritty" Batman.

^ I'll agree with you on that. David Fincher is another director who might be able to pull off Arkham Aslyum.
