^According to this article, the NASA Robonaut entry in the DARPA challenge will have two legs. Yea... at long last, the space robot will finally get it's legs!

Always pretty much thought of untethered walking robots as a given, it's the AI involved(or AGI) I'm really interested in. Contrary to belief on this board, the walking robot has made huge strides since I've kept tabs on it in the early 90s.

I like this image of DARPA (human-sized) humanoid robots, using human tools, in hazardous and lethal environments. Civilization needs these robots!

If they were on the starship Enterprise... Spock would not have had to die in "The Wrath of Khan". Send the robots into the radiation chamber. But they might need to wear 'red shirts'.

Anyway.. these carbon yarns sound very interesting with a huge applicable field.. wonder when we will see the first gadgets using them.
 
I'm a little skeptical ofthe video of PETMAN. Get a humanoid robot to walk upright for a few seconds, then have a real person stomp around in a NBC suit like a moron.

It's not quite a Robby Robot yet… but we're getting there. It needs rotating sensor rings on its head. ;)
 
The big holdback is power. My guess is that this thing would be as noisy in the field as the Big Dog. For it to be useful, I might scale it up and have it powered by the type of atomic pile they were going to put in the Ford Nucleon.

Like the Alien, you don't dare shoot it, for fear of corium lava from the walking meltdown.
