Spoilers Dark Matter - Season 2

Yeah, and even if he is dead that doesn't mean he couldn't end up being resurrected somehow, this is sci-fi after all. We also still have Corso out and about.

If he is brought back through that vacation program, he should look like his original self and not Corso, though.

Lots of backstory and leads in this episode. Guess they paid for all of those expensive sets in the previous episodes by confining this one to the ship.

Still liking this more than Killjoys I think.

I wish 2 didn't share the name of a famous porn star (Portia Lin/Porsche Lynn) as it takes me out of the show every time they say it. If they reveal her to have a sister named Ginger I don't know if I'll clap or groan (probably both).

Bottle ship episode as mentioned but it was OK. I like that they still play with the premise of identity and memory as a lot of shows drop those things right after they start.

I never made that connection
, maybe because she was a third Lynn after Ginger and Amber.

So Five showing love saves the day. Four was hamming it up with his evil act

Shouldn't there have been video of the crew stored in the Raza's computer since their 'awakening'? That would have provided proof that Five wasn't deceiving them. Or mention that Six had been shot and placed in cryo? The pod's records would show when it was activated-and presumably his medical scans would also be downloaded. Although we don't know how long he's been with the Raza, 14 months ago, he had to be with them before One joined as faux Corso?

And I'd always believed a bottle show, was an episode that was filmed entirely on the standing sets. We did get an original set built for this one, the alley/docking platform-ish location in Two's memory. ;)

I wish people would stop mentioning Killjoys in every other Dark Matter related post. These two shows have virtually nothing in common other than being on the same network and being made on low budgets.

This being said, I watch both and find Killjoys somewhat bland and uninspired, and the production values (the sets, the costumes, the camera work) look downright amateurish, whereas Dark Matter seems to be making the most out of every spent penny.

This last episode was a nice example of a "bottle show" done right.

The two shows inevitably will get comparisons since they are aired back to back and are so close in genre. Heck, some people even think the shows should cross over.

The tech seen in Dark Matter appears to be decades ahead of that in Killjoys. The Quad could pass for one of the less advanced corners of the Dark Matter universe, I suppose.

It was a good and interesting episode, DM firing on all cylinders in S2, so far. I hope it gets renewed, though ratings on Syfy don't look great for the first two episodes (with ep2 dropping audience compared to ep1). I hope its native channel, "Space", and other (overseas) markets are doing better.

An important detail in this episode was the discussion betwee Two and Three about no longer being on the strings of the corporations. That will have an impact. So will, I guess, the memories from their old lives (minus a year or so, in between the brain scan and the memory wipe) - looks like a Chekhov's gun.

I also love that consequences of the Android's stay in Hyperion-8 are visited. Android told the GA tech that she would be damaged, and the problems with the neural link was not a throwaway line. The writers tend to set up their storylines well, on this show. We also got confirmation that the Android was already part of the crew 14 months ago - but yet she ended up locked in that box. Did she start to turn on them and their criminal activities?

Arax is the "asset" of Reynaud. This explains why he suddenly changed his minds about escaping. His days are probably numbered.

Two mourns for One, and has regrets about what happened the last time they saw each other. I didn't think we would see that scene, but it promises revenge for One, by Two or Three or both. Corso and his employer better watch out!

So is Reynaud somehow linked to One's murder, or is she just after Five? Her line about sending flowers to the Moss funeral confused me.

It’s not entirely clear, but I also got the impression that Reynaud had a hand in Moss’ murder and that she wants to take over Corelactic.

The producers on The Blacklist made the same claims.

It makes no sense to build up One's character, only to kill him off in the first episode of season 2. They've mentioned him each episode. The actor did not quit or get fired, so there was no reason why he needed written out of the show. I think it's clear that One will return in some fashion ala Agent Keane from Blacklist. We saw One get shot but we only have the news reports to confirm his death. He may not even be dead. It could have been staged. In The Blacklist they faked Agent Keane's death in such a way that everyone but one secondary character thought she was dead.

Maybe this episode will have future significance. If they have One's brain implant in the computer also (post mind wipe) they could imprint it over Jace Cosrso's mind somehow. This way you effectively get One back, even though the original one (Derrick Moss) is dead.

The do not have One's brain imprint, only 2, 3 & 4 were Raza crew members at the time the computer stored their brain patterns, it happened several months before 1 & 6 joined the Raza crew and before 5 was on the ship.

True, Still I wonder if they have a brain print from somewhere else after the mind wipe.

There will be future significance; apart from obvious things like Arax being the "asset" of Reynaud, Three inadvertendly contacting his old buddies (or are they?) and the mistrust between the original crew on the one hand and the newcomers on the other hand, two things stood out for me in this episode.

Two was mourning for One, and she told Three why he was on the ship. There is going to be a storyline where those go after One's murderers (not just Corso, the people behind it as well).

Two also said that she was tired of dancing on the strings of the Corps. That one is going to have huge repercussions I think, assuming there will be more than two seasons this may play out as a huge arc and carry into later seasons.

Or mention that Six had been shot and placed in cryo?

Yeah, we didn't even get a mention of Six outside the recap. I wonder if Roger Cross had some other commitment that required writing him out for a bit. I wouldn't be surprised, given how busy he is. I hope it's not a long commitment.

And I'd always believed a bottle show, was an episode that was filmed entirely on the standing sets. We did get an original set built for this one, the alley/docking platform-ish location in Two's memory. ;)

The alley may have been a redress of an existing set. Or maybe an actual alley in the studio? Lots of TV shows use studio buildings for exteriors -- for instance, Star Trek's "Patterns of Force" used a Paramount office building for the space-Nazis' headquarters, and Mission: Impossible used that same building and adjacent ones to represent dozens of locations.

It makes no sense to build up One's character, only to kill him off in the first episode of season 2.

Not in-story, but actor departures are often the result of external factors.

The actor did not quit or get fired, so there was no reason why he needed written out of the show.

Aside from how totally bland he was? He was by far the weakest link in this cast. Maybe they decided he just wasn't working out. If he was let go, they wouldn't advertise it.

Incidentally, I just realized that, technically, this is now a female-led series, with Melissa O'Neil getting first billing. Although it is only a technicality, since it's an ensemble cast whose members are listed in numerical order by character.

There will be future significance; apart from obvious things like Arax being the "asset" of Reynaud, Three inadvertendly contacting his old buddies (or are they?)

Yeah, those folks who got Three's signal are bound to be significant. They listed Nigel Bennett in the opening guest credits even though he was on camera for maybe ten seconds in the final shot. If they paid him that well for a cameo, it must mean he's been signed for a major recurring role.

Two also said that she was tired of dancing on the strings of the Corps.

Which is just one of this episode's resonances with the same night's Killjoys episode -- the flashforward-teaser format being another.
