What psychopaths lack in particular is a sense of empathy. But for a seemingly normal person, I doubt that's the case here. We all have choices, the moral distinction to do what's right and what's wrong. But then even terrorists or criminals have their own motives, and one needs not be a psychopath to do harm. This guy is just plain evil.

I *still* don't understand how, in such a trigger happy country, where they've pissed off the military, Hells Angels, and everybody else who likes to blow shit up, nobody's righteously greased the cunts belonging to a certain religious family, whose initials are WBC. I mean, even though it seems they rarely turn up and just say these things to get press (which is why I'm not sharing the link to said press where they've "promised" to picket the funerals of the Aurora cinema victims), you'd think that'd still be enough...

So tragic. Due to the time zone I was reading online and read the news right after the incident. Then was able to follow the commentary. Many people brought agendas, which seemed rather callous at the time. The lack of gun control was the pervassive idea. Later, while reading of the arms this person was able to compile, I had to wonder how it was possible. The man bought an arsenal. How is that possible in a post 9/11 world?
Violence is sadly a large part of humanity. Recently there was a report of a young woman executed in Afghanistan while many watched. People are rotten and gorgeous. Quite the paradox.
I am unable to comment on this monster's motivation. Although his name is now forever linked to Batman. Could it be that simple?

I think he was pursuing his PhD, but already had his masters. As has been noted, many people with a screw loose are attracted to psychology. He was also employed as a janitor at the theatre, which is possibly another pair of strikes (obsessed with movies and can't find a job in his field), and his mother seemed to think her son was nuts and would do something like this.

I have to wonder if he took the job at the movies as part of his "plan". Working there would give him the lay of the land, he would know the corners, the hiding places, and every lapsed security measure.

Everything says this guy was high functioning. We've known this movie was coming out for how long now? If he was specifically going to target it it would give him plenty of time to plan it out, and getting a job at the location of your hit is a great way to gather intel.

Very good point. If he was willing to be a janitor in a movie theater and had a college degree, there were lots of other low level jobs he could've taken. It's far more likely that he picked the job to advance his plan, rather than having the job and then suddenly developing a psychosis over an upcoming Batman movie.

Yeah, it all just reeks of a guy who's spent an obscenely long amount of time preparing this particular feast of carnage for himself. Goddamn creep will wank to this the rest of his worthless life. Death is too good a fate
