"Dark Hope" Re-Release

Picard Alpha

Commander
Red Shirt
Since I no longer operate the official website, I thought this would be the best place to announce this bit of news.

After 2 years, Encarta IV: Dark Hope will receive a minor re-treatment. I was contacted via Nextcat by a composer who was very inspired by the opening credit sequence and decided to compose a soundtrack to the sequence. In turn, I was so inspired by his work that I contacted him to see if he'd be interested in composing the entire film. He has agreed to the project.

While this isn't necessarily a new film in production, it feels good for me to be able to say I'm working on Star Trek again. I've agreed to, for all intents and purposes, re-release the film with his soundtrack and an addition of his credit. At this time, I don't plan to make any other changes to the film. If all the cards align correctly and all goes well I plan to re-release the film, this time in HD, on YouTube.

Who knows, if all goes well, maybe I'll be inspired enough to write another one of these damned things.

In the meantime I've accepted a role on Star Trek: Mariner, playing the Vulcan Chief Engineer. Just trying to keep busy! http://mariner.gfcmedia.net/index

Any kind of guesstimate as to when the retooled film will be completed? I'm still hovering around reviewed "Dark Hope," but I'd prefer to do the final final version as opposed to just the final version for Fan Film Friday..

Let me know.

...or you could review the original and then review the new release. Might make for an interesting comparison and commentary on fan films.

Interesting faq about Mariner. I just recently purchased Anime Studio Pro to augment stuff I'm doing in Sketchup (Lots of Trek sketchup models in the Googleverse). Though most of what I'm doing is for previz and storyboard.

Randy,

Since the guy proposing this project is far from my shores, and communication is limited I cannot provide an estimate of when he'll complete his work.

With that said, since the work will only be on the soundtrack it won't really be enough of a change to constitute effecting you're review. I'd say go ahead, because until the new version is released what's available now is under all circumstances the "official" cut.

OK. I'll get to it in the next couple weeks or so. One of the biggest problem with fan films is absenteeism from people who say they'll do something but just don't quite accomplish it.

Again, let me know when you're ready to roll with your "upgraded" episode!

Randy! Come on now man ;) I've never said something and then not followed through. I've been doing this for over a decade, I'm a veteran!

I was referring to some film makers who promise the moon then don't show up when it's filming time. Certainly not your group, but some others have had to struggle with this problem.

I don't think, given the extraordinary difficulties some of us in the fan film community have had in dealing with you, Randy, that you are in any position to be pointing fingers at people.

STILL looking for a flame war, Double? :guffaw: You'll have to go to somewhere else.

Again, I've said that some people promise the moon and then don't show up. Ryan, I'm glad you have a loyal crew. It reminds me of the old saying, "Many hands make light work" or something like that.

I will say this: "Dark Hope" was what I'd hoped to see in Voyager, and other than "Year of Hell," I didn't see any damage to the cast or systems give out and the crew having to do without, like the transporter or replicator for uniforms. I'm IMPRESSED!

Here's to more Encarta! :bolian:

I don't see how referencing your own, recent behavior to illustrate your hypocrisy constitutes an attempt at a flame war.

Time and again several of us attempted to reason with you about what really were just minor issues yet you threw temper tantrum after temper tantrum, ignoring requests and changing the arguments presented to you, finally simply acknowledging only the points you could, in your own head, defend.

I don't expect you to respond to any of this rationally; instead we'll just get more "Oh good luck trolling me!111!" followed by some comments regarding unrelated issues, and then some all-encompassing passive-aggressive "threat" to stop or quit since "nobody" appreciates what you're doing.

In short, grow up and stop throwing out insulting, nebulous "facts" about other fan film productions.

I think that's probably for the best. Picard_Alpha, my apologies for derailing the thread for a bit. I won't do it again.
