For anyone who has watched (Star Trek) Encarta IV: Dark Hope, do you believe Captain Lynch's actions in the rift were beyond redemption? It's conceivable that Lynch's crew kept the brief marooning off the record, a sort of "family secret". I'm trying to figure out if Lynch's actions in the rift really justify prison time and or general court martial. The situation was out of the norm, there's no rule book set up for stranded ships out of communication with Starfleet for years, starving to survive... It's not as if his actions resembled anything Ransom did on Equinox, but I'm not sure exactly what Federation/Starfleet law would do to him upon return to Earth.
Thoughts?
