Heck, I rarely know who the "big name guest star" they have on the show is, since I only watch a couple of British programs. Like you said, it probably helps not going in with any preconceived notions.

I'm neither enthusiastic nor unenthusiastic. If they need someone to sing it might as well be her as anyone else.

And given that my knowledge of music past about 1996 is pretty minimal I was makig fun of myself for not knowing who she was. (It took a while to realise that no one else know who she was either.)

Moffat says in relation to the episode that "the Doctor is finally catching up on his phone calls" and that it takes place "on board... well, you’ll see." Which suggests the missing words are "the Orient Express... In Space".

It's semi-impressive that someone can have a Grammy and a Top 5 album without anyone anywhere ever seeming to have heard of her.

To be fair winning a grammy is like asking most brits who Tyler Perry is - lots of blank looks.
