Damn you, Berman & Braga!

...for making a Trek series I'm actually enjoying so far!

Before now, I've only seen a handful of episodes, usually Daedalus, since that seems to be the only episode Syfy plays. But, I've taken the plunge, bought all four seasons, and have proceeded in tearing into it.

I've only finished The Andorian Incident, and I've found it pretty enjoyable thus far (with the exception of Terra Nova, which I thought was kind of a snooze fest). But so far, it's neat watching characters who are more like us and not pompous and arrogant like certain stuffy French/British captains who won't be named here, Jean-Luc Picard.

I even kind of like the theme song, but it takes a while to grow on you. It captures the spirit of humanity finally taking to the stars and finally getting the Vulcans to stop holding them back.

I plan on finishing season one this week, then it's on to the dreaded Season 2 (I'm kind of anxious to see it A Night in Sickbay is as horrible as everyone says, and I can't wait to finally hear Archer's Gazelle Speech :D )

But, after years of Berman and Braga bashing, I must say, they've really impressed me with Voyager's seasons five and six and now Enterprise season one.

Season two does have some good episodes -- just not very many...

I'd be interested in seeing how you like seasons 3 and 4. A lot of ENT fans consider them the best of the lot.

I think season two has a lot of good episodes myself. In fact, far more good than bad.

I had a blast my first time through the series. Up to that point, I had never made it much past the opening theme.

I also have been re-watching my DVD's and have rethought several previous opinions I had about this show. The theme song is an example. I forgot that the end credits of Broken Bow was an orchestrated version of Faith of the Heart, and THAT version wasn't bad. Get rid of the stupid words, and the tune is enjoyable.

Seasons three and four are the best. However, I personally don't see what's so wrong with Season Two. Sure it had it stinkers, but what season of Trek didn't?

 I think we're going to lay down some soft cushions just inside the doorway, for all the people who stumble big-time when they find out what this thread is really about.

Glad you're enjoying the show. :techman: There are others of us who like the theme song. And Season 2. (Yes, including "A Night in Sickbay.")

I agree that they don't get enough credit for the good work they did.

Keep you eyes peeled for Phlox cutting his toenails.
Ooooh, just think of all the treasures you have to look forward to.

Have fun!

I started again with season 1 disc 1 last night. Hoshi started out with lots of screen time. Wonder what prompted the change?

Well, the guy we have to thank for the later seasons of Voyager not sucking is Brannon Braga, definitely. I mean, wasn't he the guy responsible for bringing Jeri Ryan on the show? They dated, IIRC. Seven of Nine saved Voyager, if you don't mind me sayin'.

As for Enterprise, season one is pretty good and enjoyable, though boring at times. Season two (airing in my home country right now) is mostly a suckfest (having ten consecutive shit episodes, from ANuS to Stigma), but it definitely has its moments. First Flight definitely stands out here.

Precious Cargo wasn't that bad, and no I'm not on crack. :shifty:

I'm not a fan of that episode, but I like Unexpected, so consider the source.

And I'm really glad this isn't another B&B bash-a-thon thread. I don't understand why people get so worked up about those two.

you know i really don't like Enterprise, idk it just seemed like a dissapointment to me. As far as they're writting, there would be nothing past TNG without them so i give them kudos for keeping Star Trek alive for all those years but they could have done better on thier writting.

I can see that; there's stories I would have like to have seen told much differently than they were. But I don't get the level of hostility towards this and the new movie--it goes beyond dislike of the show to actual personal hatred.

Mostly because of what they did at the end (denied Manny Coto the chance to finish what he started).

But then again, most of us really don't have a beef with Brannon Braga at all. Rick Berman is something else, though.

It was pretty much out of his hands by then. UPN was the one really in charge for VOY and ENT, not Berman. Most just choose to blame him for everything, though.

didn't care much about background information and the makers until recently, when i watched a couple of interviews of berman and braga. seem to be quite intelligent mainstream human beings. ira steven behr however stroke me as weird. very weird.

In my experience, brilliant people more often do appear weird than "normal" by society's conventions.

Most of my "normal" friends tend to be pretty boring compared to my "weird" friends, I might add...

As for Berman, hi did some pretty OK interviews back in the day, but there were ones in which he appeared flat out retarded... :shifty:
