D7!!!.... huh?

So, we FINALLY get our first glimpse of THE D-7!.... And it's a passing shot that does the ship no justice. I was expecting a reveal like that in STVI, where Gorkon's ship is approaching the Enterprise. The previous scene even teased nostalgia with the echoing intercom announcements aboard Discovery. I was awaiting "Now hear this -- all officers to the bridge. Klingon Battlecruiser off the port bow."

Thoughts? No doubt we will see more next week.

I have a feeling we'll be seeing a whole bunch of D-7s in the coming episode, backing up Discovery and the Enterprise. I think it'll be a flipped spin on "Yesterday's Enterprise" as they back up Discovery as it does its time jump.

With Discovery's tradition of just ignoring what happened in the previous episode, I expect the D7 to be gone.

Y'know. I hated the season 1 design. But if they did that (even if only for one appearance) - that'd be a move I'd respect!:guffaw:

I'm glad we got a D7 at all - I don't want to sound unthankful for that very very welcome change.

But yeah, as a broader observation, they really seem to hate Motion Picture Era or TNG Era cinematic style beauty shots of starships in this show - it would be a really easy way to call back to the visual style of past Star Trek shows in a Rogue One/Force Awakens type way - but they have consciously avoided everything about that style since day one - camera styles, starship establishing shots, inter-ship naval drama, captain's log, etc.

Yeah, it is weird. In this CGI era making space shots is easier than ever, yet we often get just quick glimpses of the ships. There even has been many cases where another ship (ferrying an admiral etc.) has apparently been present, but not shown. Considering that they made a full fleet of different Fed ship types for this show, I find it really perplexing. In TNG they would have at least shown us that same stock footage clip of an Excelsior next to the Enterprise...

Well they used the Season 1 BoP design in Episode 12, so they didn't scrap the other ships completely.

Though it was also a flashback, so it would be weird if they used a new design.
