D-Day

There was a lot of harrumphing in Blighty because the French and USA decided they were the only ones who actually did anything at D Day, thus omitting to invite any prominent Brits, like Her Maj for instance. A polite word from that nice Mr Obama into Mr Sarkozy's beautifully tailored ear sorted him out, legend has it.

Obama just forgot he hadn't united humanity in one harmonious brotherhood just yet, and had to invite other nation-states to things for a bit longer. Easy mistake to make.

An especially nasty slight considering the Queen is the only remaining head of state who served during WW2.

Sarkozy wanted to be the only one on the picture with Obama. So typical for him...

Not sure she 'served'. She drove an ambulance after the hostilities were over.

She joined the ATS in early 1945, she was serving in uniform before the war ended, hence she served in WW2 irrespective of what that entailed.

Yeah but you made it sound like she was on Gold with the Northumbrians, dodging the tank shells.

You mean you haven't heard about the recently declassified mission she was sent on? It was her who infiltrated the bunker, and brought down Hitler...

"One doesn't like to talk about it."

I didn't think I implied she was actually fighting, sure she would have been parachuted into France in a heartbeat if they'd let her!

Anything to get away from Philip?

For some reason after I typed that I just couldn't get Churchill: The Hollywood Years out of my head.
