I am going there in less than a month for most of a 3 week period. I will be working most of the time and will sleeping in a town called Hradec Králové and working in a smaller town to the north. Any trekkies over there, or any good advice? I will be landing in Prague and then going to that city. I will most likely be working long shifts at the th new plant but its a once in a lifetime opportunity as I see it. Its been since 1999 since I was in Europe and that was the UK. Now I get my chance to visit what was a Soviet border state when I was in the Air Force. I am looking forward to it. Its been since 2000 since I was on a plane so I am nervous about that, but Its less than a month and I am excited. Though not excited about leaving my wife behind for 3 weeks.

I used to live in Austria which is quite near. I hear Prague is very nice from friends who've been there, and in general it's a country with usually pretty friendly, hospitable and tolerant people but also a high crime rate (especially car theft and forced prostitution)... ...for your holidays, I would def go to Prague or if you have the time and money, pay a visit to Vienna, it's one of the best cities in Europe (trust me, I lived there for quite a few years).

The village I will be working in has a place that rents motorcycles and I hope to take a day and rent a bike and just ride down towards Vienna or whatever suits me. I don't know that I will get a day off as I am there to work and not vacation, but I will take the overtime and whatever I can see and eat on the company credit card ;)

Prague is awesome (and I mean, awesome: been there two times, and I absolutely love it), and the Czech people are usually friendly and welcoming. Also, Czech women are stunning.

I'm afraid I don't share George's enthusiasm about Vienna: it's a nice city, but quite... stiff. Berlin or Munich would be a better choice to visit, in my opinion.

Munich is closer, I might do that also. I will have a rental car to drive from the village "Jaromer" pronounced yaromesh to the hotel and so I will do a bit of driving around too.

Its now 3 weeks from Sunday until I leave out and I am getting kind of excited. What sucks though is that I might be traveling alone. I would prefer to go with someone. I have not been on a plane since 99 and don't know what all is involved. Hopefully I will go through security once here and be done with it.

I am back from Czech now. Wow what a trip. It went buy quick working 12 hour days every day, but it was an experience I shall never forget. Eastern Czech still has a very Eastern block feel to the place in the buildings and in the thinking of the locals. As for prague its a beautiful city with anything you could want. The hotel they put us up in the last night there in Prague is not to be believed. Here are some pictures.
