Cyberpunk

I co-wrote and directed this cyberpunk short film in Los Angeles this past year. Visually it's influenced by Wong Kar-Wai's 'Fallen Angels' which I've always thought of as a non-technological cyberpunk film.

'Anamnesis' is about a man that's so desperate to rewrite his past that he develops a way to steal peoples' memories and relive them as his own at the risk of losing his own identity.

We're in the middle of post-production and looking for completion funds to finish sound design and visual fx. We have some nice perks in exchange for your donation so throw in if you can. Whatever you do help spread the word to support 'New Wave' indie filmmaking and cyberpunk!

Not really spam! I post here every once in a while about Trek. I just wanted to see if other sci-fi fans would be interested in helping out my little film :) at least watch the video.

I didn't think it mattered how long it's been since I posted here. My point is that I've posted here before to talk about my honest interest in Star Trek. I figured you guys would be interested in my sci-fi project. Let me know, and thanks!

I don't consider this spam. This is networking. Also cap-brad has a product that he is willing to share. A product by forum definition we should be interested in.

Some may feel different, but he is not inciting anyone to purchase anything or selling anything. Just that he has a product, in this case a film that he wants to share with people, with or with out our assistance and if we would like to help support. Not unlike any other of a number of fan film on this site.

Nope, he's soliciting for donations. Read the board faq. Other threads doing the same have been closed.

Well, we'll just see how long it takes before they delete the thread. In the meantime, enjoy the video and help us out if you can. We're all sci-fi fans after all :)

So if, hypothetically, Chris Nolan or Joss Whedon started posting here and telling us about TDK or ST and tried to drum up interest in the films...the threads should be closed and the directors banned as spammers?

Have you seen this month's "]Wired"? There's a cover story that might interest you.

I have heard of this, their was an episode on Boston Legal that dealt with this issue and a rape victim. Interesting on the topic if we loose our memories, than what makes us who we are. Would we even know.

Cap- I support your endevour, it's not spam it is innovative..ignore the naysayers. Some just want to be joy killers. Embrace your passions and move forward.

Good Luck with your project

If they were asking for donations, yes, the thread should be closed. Banning is a bit of a harsher offense. Just ask Chase Masterson.:p

How is asking for donations different than asking us to buy tickets?

Who said it was?

But at this point it seems the mods don't consider this thread to be soliciting/spam, so no point derailing the thread any longer.

So if Chris Nolan came here to talk up TDK and said-quite understandably-he hoped we'd see the movie (something that necessitated buying a ticket) you'd call that spam?

Thanks to the supporters for the kind words.

To others: Look, it's not like I'm a mega-corporation or a wealthy filmmaker. My co-writer and I have put more money that we can really afford into this film over the past year and it's a passion project. If people think it's a worthwhile investment and something they'd like to see finished for art's sake then donating and getting a little perk for it is fair I think. For something like this that really only friends and family know about a message board targeted at the genre your film is in is one of the only places to expose your work to the outside world. Try and have a little more sympathy for the little guy.

Hey, I like being alerted to indie projects out there. I REALLY don't get people who bitch about this.

G-man and Shatinator: I haven't seen that Wired issue or the Boston Legal episode, but I have read some articles about tests they've done on mice where they can erase traumatic memories and their effects. I wouldn't be surprised to see it work with humans in the near future and in some cases I think it would be a wonderful thing. War veterans and victims of abuse are amongst those that would benefit in my mind.

It's funny, I think the whole "our memories make us who we are" actually came from Star Trek. I seem to remember Picard saying it in response to someone offering him a chance to wipe away all of his painful memories or his mistakes. Might've said it to Q. Either way, it is fascinating to wonder what would happen to a person if you started to tamper with their experiences.
