CW 2009-2010 schedule announced

Because the CW is committed to a strategy of young, beautiful rich people in soap opera settings that will draw that magic female 18-34 demo. It's going to ride that strategy right into the ground. Young women like soaps and only soaps.....according to the CW creative team. Even the Vampire Diaries is going to be a soapy teen angst, Twilight sort of thing. That's why Dawn O doesn't "get" Supernatural to this day. It's not the romance, it's the bromance....and the psychotic humor and horror, of course. She truly doesn't comprehend why that shows fans are so devoted. It's why she insisted (and Eric Kripke admitted it to TV Guide) on a second, young (as in her 20s) female character for season three. The character failed miserably and was axed for season four. Of course, Dawn O continues to cut Supernatural's budget so it can't afford the rights to all the classic rock songs Kripke would still like to feature.

Hell, Katie Jacobs, exec producer of House is an idiot, but at least she gets that the bromance between House and Wilson is the key even though she insists on the House/Cuddy/Cameron nonsense to tease the shippers. I wish Dawn O at least had her semi brains. But she'll keep okaying more remakes of Melrose Place and the like.

So, Dorian Thompson, you're telling me that the cw network is obsessed with rich people? That is, I will never understand what is cw network trying to do, but why bothering bringing other classic back? There's no reason for them to be obsessed with rich people.

How can cw network be so stupid these days?? How typical!

I'm very shocked that the cw network is still around after they merged in 2006! In the back of my mind, I thought that the cw network would be very successful, but boy, was I wrong! In the order to be very successful network, you needed fresh ideas that can capture our attention, not bringing classic shows back on the tv! I don't know how long can the cw network lasts....

They think they'll get the Twilight movie audience and have their first break out hit. Probably not. That age group watches television online or still doesn't know the CW exists. I'm still ticked that Supernatural didn't finally get that timeslot. Now it has The Office, CSI, Grey's, and (a non-Idol fueled) Fringe to deal with at 9 p.m. I'm sure the CW doesn't want to launch a new show against that. Then again, every time slot is a problem.

Agreed. I totally gets what you're saying.

Yep. The Twilight series is about two vampire brothers who are fighting over a girl who reminds them of a past love. :rommie: It's just One Tree Hill/Gossip Girl/Melrose Place with fangs. The kind of show a 14 year old girl would love. Pretty, hairless teenaged boys. That's the CW for you.

Oh, that stupid storyline? Two vampire brothers are fighting over a girl of a past love? I can't believe that the cw network can go that far beyond me. That guards my mind to ensure to thinking twice if I want to watching this series, but I'm die-hard fan of vampires.

But, this storyline is getting sounds so stupider, if you ask me. Although, CBS cancelled darker storyline of Moonlight. I just wish that the cw network would picking up stronger, darker storyline. It's that key to nail that being very successful network.

Oh and melrose Place isn't just a redo / Continuation, it's also a ripoff of Veronica Mars!

The first season will deal with an overarching story dealing with a recent murder of a dead character from the first show. During the season they will explain, through flashbacks what really happened to the character and why she isn't really dead for the last 10 years (she died in the finale I guess), leading up to who really killed her today.

Should have just kept Veronica Mars.... Should have just kept WB.

If Veronica Mars had sold better in overseas markets, WB would have been fighting for it. Unfortunately it didn't. I agree that it's worlds better than 99 percent of the tripe that airs on CW now. Too serialized, I suppose. It's a shame, really.

Oh, but it has. "The Beautiful Life" will be airing on Wednesdays after Toop Model. It's explores the darker side of modeling......no, I'm not kidding. :guffaw: I'm sure those new viewers won't desert it once Idol premieres in the spring, eh? Our brave young hero, Sam Winchester, killing an innocent possessed nurse so he can suck all her blood out is as dark as you're going to see on the CW. The demon went to "sleep" but didn't vacate the body, so the innocent woman was conscious when it happened. Pretty gross, eh? Of course it couldn't measure up to that 1 minute fight between Clark Kent and Doomsday but we can't have everything.

I followed Veronica Mars regularly each of the weeks. It's very shame that it's too serialized, I couldn't agree with you more.

Are you telling me that we do have version of Top model that has been picked up by the cw?!?! Holy fucker, you weren't kidding about that. I just read the article about "the beautiful life", but come on! It's too darker and deeper for me to bear to hear all of that detail! Vulcan self of me would be so shocking to see this version of top model show!! But you're right, we can't have everything! I can't believe that the cw are that desperate, now they're starting to sounds like Disney to me!

That could be a good topic for, say, an HBO or AMC series. Characters who are horrifying, self-involved twits; anorexic/bulemic; heroin addicts; insane with greed, lust and fame; or all of the above. That sounds like a formula for a potentially great show to me! But the CW is the worst possible place for it.

I'm sure the fashion industry is extremely dark and nasty once you delve into it; only Hollywood and organized crime could compete with it for bringing out the worst in humanity, and those two have certainly inspired great TV and movies. Just give it the same honest treatment as Mad Men gives to advertising. But I doubt CW is going to depict anything quite so hairy or so grownup.

The inane approach they are going to take instead is on display here. You can also get confirmation that the vampire show will (pun intended) suck. I couldn't even get a third of the way thru that preview before giving up in utter disgust. Too bad, because like the modeling industry idea, there's no reason that a vampire show can't be great.

No Reaper, CW and me are finito. :p

The CW give anything the same treatment as Mad Men?

:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

I'm sorry, that doesn't compute. Mad Men is superb and the CW is....well, it's the CW. Vincent Kartheiser could never get cast in anything the CW produced, nor could Elizabeth Moss for that matter. Great actors be damned, they aren't pretty enough. Jon Hamm is, but he is, as you know.....over 30. Focus on a character over 30? And one with actual body hair? Are you mad?

Yikes, Dean Winchester was born in 1979. Ackles had better watch his back. The CW execs will be after him. Tom Welling's over 30, but his character will be forever 21 even when Clark's graying at the temples. :p

Hell, Supernatural's ratings went up this season and it's still going to get a budget cut for next year because the network's in such sorry shape. Too many Nielsen viewers with dangling reproductive organs watching that one. Dawn O may give it some lip service at the upfronts, but actually advertise it or fund it? Get serious.

The CW can curl up and die, just so soon as Supernatural finishes, and not before. ;)

You got that right. It's the last quality show the CW will ever have.

As long as Supernatural gets its full fifth season I couldn't really give a toss about anything else The CW airs

Kripke deserves to get to tell his full five year story and I would be very pissed off if the show wasn't renewed (as would my youngest sister, my mum, my younger brother, my eldest brother and his girlfriend who all love the show too)

The CW give anything the same treatment as Mad Men?
Yeah I know. :p Just thinkin' out loud. The premise should be on AMC or HBO, and once I got thinking about it, I realized what a waste it was to be on CW.

Tell me why are they bringing the another classic back on tv, Melrose Place? :wtf: It upsets me even more why the cw network are cancelling Reaper? It's my favorite show of all.

Yeah, I'm gonna miss Reaper. One of my favorites, too. Looks like my only new favorite NOT to get the axe is Fringe. My record's worse than ever this year.

Fringe is going to have to watch itself next year. Fox (which isn't nearly as desperate as CW for ratings) stuck Fringe on Thursdays--at 9--without benefit of an American Idol lead in. Yes, it has my Supernatural against it, but far more dangerous for Fringe is going against CSI, Grey's, and The Office at the same time. SPN is on the desperate CW and is probably in its last season next fall anyway since the exec producer/creator's contract expires after the 2009-2010 season and the two leads have said they don't want to do the show once he leaves. Fringe is on cancel happy FOX. I don't know what Fox was thinking. I'm not a Fringe fan, but some of my fellow SPN fans are. They'll all be DVR-ing Fringe. If any Nielsen viewers who are SPN fans (or Office, CSI, or Grey's fans) decide to follow suit, Fringe's live ratings could suffer. I don't know why Fox is moving it away from Wednesdays.
