custom warp drive design

this is not directly related to the trek universe, so if this thread is in violation of the forum its currently in than by all means move it to the appropriate one.
anyway, i've created my own universe that combines the base tech from star trek, andromeda, and robotech. one of my earlier ships is closely based on trek tech, its warp drive is unique. it's powered by two warp cores, where each one is laid horizontally in each warp engine. this purpose is to allow the ship to engage in multiple warp manoeuvres during combat. its design enables a near zero energy transfer lag. the warp coils in the engines would also assist in the cores magnetic constrictors for better power production. if anyone would like to see what this ship looks like i built a lego model: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=362900
i'm interested in the opinions everyone would have to offer

Ok, I'll bite.

This is certainly an interesting idea. I'm curious as to what you mean by "multiple warp maneuvers."

One question that immediately pops up is what happens when one of your 'warp cores' goes out/is destroyed? If it's like a Boeing jet - the vessel can still 'fly' with just one engine - much of your performance will be eaten up by redundant or safety systems, that might be alleviated if it was just the single core.

Thoughts?

Cheers!

think of it as using the picard manoeuvre alot. and should the engines be irreparably damaged causing them to explode, the entire engine section can be jetisoned and be used as a makeshift bomb should the situation call for it. and warp fields could be alternated between each engine which would presumably alieviate stress to continue doing this. yes overall speed and performance is reduced should one engine be used exclusively, but it'd leave the ship with some breathing room to get away.
the ships primary purpose is to engage and disrupt fleet formations, sort of like a short range hit and run technique.

Remember, the "warp core" or M/ARC only provides the energy for the warp coils in the nacelles in post TOS Trek. In TOS trek the "power plants" were possibly located in each nacelle.

Regardless, you have the two sets of warp coils already- one set in each nacelle...

i'm not sure what you mean in that last line, but essentially what i did was put a warp core into each nacelle. sorry for saying the same thing twice, i also figured recently that due to this design, while it may have the ability for quick multiple warp accelerations, it's a big "gas gusler" which is probably why i made it a potrol type vessel.
suppose to defend planetary systems against invading fleets

I'm not exactly certain what you're getting at either really. What you're describing sounds like a tracked tracker to me.

As for the warp cores, some camps (as I do) subscribe to the proposition that TOS's Enterprise did indeed have a "power plant" in each nacelle. And since it's generally accepted that this would involve a M/AM reaction, that makes it essentially a warp core, or reactor in each nacelle.

Problem solved. ?

What the heck are "quick multiple warp accelerations"? Is it like a car trying to go forward and reverse at the same time?

sorry, i meant repeated warp accelerations. using warp speeds within a few seconds of each other
