CURSE YOU, STEVEN MOFFAT!

Everyday Cumberbatch gets farther and farther from 12 doctor talk :(

Ofcourse he apparently turned down being the eleventh doctor because he "didn't want his face on a lunch box"

It was ok that Sherlock, wasn't it. I don't think it was a masterpiece or anything like that (the bloody twat's more magic than the Doctor, for a start) but it was watchable and compelling. Probably better than anything Moffat's written for DW since he took over.

I said the Xmas special was too flabby. If Moffatt is spending more time on Sherlock and less on Who, then he should probably choose as the work is beginning to suffer, and Who's profile is so high now it can't be a part time thing.

Also Gatiss wrote Sherlock s1e3, and I think s2e2.

Anyway, much as I hate to say it, maybe time Moffatt moved on from Who and went back to contributing episodes.

I was reminded of that quote yesterday when I was thinknig about all the lunch boxes, t-shirts, action figures etc. he'll be on thanks to Trek.

Well in Trek he'll be one of many, and if he's in makeup as an alien as well...

I mean let's be honest how much Nero merchandise came out to coincide with 09?

I have a Nero glass. I bought it for a sixty cents at the Job Lot. I think it was from Burger King originally.

You do know some times Actors will take a lower pay for a role they enjoy playing or would like to play.

Plus it also depends if they are contracted to do another series.

And Cumberbatch and Freeman might just *gasp* like working on smaller projects like "Sherlock"

-Do one big Hollywood movie

-Go back to the England and film three more Sherlock episodes.

Cumberbatch has "The Hobbit" "War Horse" and later "Star Trek"

Freeman has "The Hobbit"

It should keep both busy till the end of next summer.
It's my hope that they love making 'Sherlock' as much as we love watching it and they'd do it not for money or bigger fame but because they actually like it. It certainly hasn't harmed their careers so far. But I imagine the chance for seeing them in the likes of Doctor Who as a villain has passed with them taking on these bigger movies.

Never say Never, DW is fairly big in the UK and it might be on thier would like to do list even if it's just a cameo.

And who knows perhaps taking the role as the Doctor means a few years of definite work.

He is doing the voice but fans will associate him with the character if their is any Smaug merch and buy it. Look how popular Andy Serkis has become since being Gollum...and Benedict is arguably more popular already thanks to "Sherlock".

Fans will, but I doubt the general public will even care. I suspect Martin Freeman is the one whos careers probably going to benefit the most.

Smaug is more of a traditional voiceover job; Sekis broke new ground with the whole mo-cap thing and consequently got a lot of attention in the media. I don't know if the Smaug job will necessarily see BC garner the same level of attention that Gollum got for Serkis. However, as you say, as against that, he's already better known than Serkis was at the time he was cast in LOTR.

Martin Freeman said in Graham Norton that he wanted to carry on doing Sherlock, I suspect he's well aware of how fickle Hollywood fame can be as well given Hitchikers.

Obviously it comes down to Cumberbatch as well but both seem to enjoy the roles, so with a bit of luck we might get a third series out of them at least...

I believe Steven Moffat is doing a good enough job with Dr Who. Hist first series was kinf of shaky and the 11th Doctor not as well established as he could have been what with the River Song storylines and focus on other things. But his second year was much improved. I look forward to what comes next with great eager anticipation.

I'll admit I haven't been crazy about a lot of his Eleven stories. However he does deserve props for hiring some great guest writers. Neil Gaiman, Richard Curtis, and Gareth Roberts imo all turned in brilliant work on the show.

Don't think the actors would want to walk away from Sherlock too soon to concentrate on Hollywood. After all, Martin Freeman initially turned down The Hobbit because he was committed to Sherlock Season 2. Admittedly the below article does say the Hobbit offer came in too late but if he was really focusing on Hollywood career I'm sure he would have found a way out of Sherlock. At least we now know he got to do both.
