- How has being a "trekkie" benefitted you? - It provided me with a community of likeminded people who have similar interests. It's also brought me to TBBS where I'm made close friends.
- How has it been a burden if at all? - Sometimes people make fun of you for it, you get the nerd title. It also kind of sucks that I don't know anyone else who watches it or cares about it to the level I do. People get annoyed with how much I talk about it sometimes.
- Why did you become a trekkie? - It just kind of happened when I watched the JJ movies. You don't choose the Trekkie life, the Trekkie life chooses you.
- Why might be the main reason for Trekkies becoming less of their own thing? - People have easy access to the shows through streaming, it's not as much of a commitment to follow the franchise now.
- Where do you see them going in 5,10,20 yrs. - It depends how much money they make. If they make more money, it'll become more commercialized for the average viewer.
- Who would you say was the most influential person (outside of Gene Roddenberry, and staff or actors) you dont have to answer this one - Yeah this is a tough one...
- Is there anything that makes you want to not be a trekkie? - Nope! I love it.
- What was the worst episode in the OG series in your opinion if any ( this ones for fun) Also i will come back to this forum after this paper is done and actually talk to you guys about star trek stuff instead of this "researching" - I could not get through "Spock's Brain" like not even the first scene. It's SO bad. (that's probably gonna be a common answer)

5. 5 years? Going crazy here over various Discovery spin-off series'. 10? Sad at the over-saturation-induced collapse of Trek (again). 20? Going crazy for the next version of Trek.
6. Trek wasn't made in a vacuum. Everyone else involved with TOS deserves credit for helping make it what it was. And then everyone involved with each successive iteration.

- How has being a "trekkie" benefitted you? It has helped find a community of like minded people, such as this forum and others. It was also the reason why I got into scifi in the first place, and genre as a whole. (fantady, horror, etc.)
- How has it been a burden if at all? Only growing up. I had no friends in school partly because being a trekkie was a social stigma.
- Why did you become a trekkie? I caught some STAR TREK reruns before TNG premiered, but the night TNG premiered, I got hooked. Data was my character, much in the way Christopher Eccleston is my Doctor. (Troughton being my favorite of the classic DW Doctors.) The stories, the characters, the exploration of humanity... that's what drew me in, and the same for the genre as a whole.
- Why might be the main reason for trekkies becoming less of their own thing? With series being so easily accessable on the internet, the mental investment is not the same. I was 8 years old when TNG premiered, and I had to wait a whoke week before the next new episode, and a full summer between seasons. Same with DS9, VGR, and ENT. No one has to do that anymore except with DISCOVERY. It's not surprising in this current society where instant gratification is expected... the waiting for the next episode or season had its own charm, and back then, everyone who wasa fan was in the same boat. The flavor of that feeling, for lack of a better term, is lost now.
- Where do you see them going in 5,10,20 yrs. Given that so many projects are gaining ground, we might be seeing an era of new STAR TREK similar to the early-mid 90s. Then a gap of 10 years of nothing. Rinse and repeat.
- Who would you say was the most influential person(outside of Gene Roddenberry, and staff or actors) Mom and my grandparents. They wholeheartedly supported my fandom, and even enjoyed some of the episodes with me. They raised me, and they were the best examples of human beings I have ever encountered.
- Is there anything that makes you want to not be a trekkie? No. I will always be a Trekkie.
- What was the worst episode in the OG series in your opinion if any. I can find something good in every episode of each series, as I created a thread for each show to talk about that very subject. There are, of course, some episodes where it is VERY difficult to find that good point. For the original series, I would probably say "AND THE CHILDREN SHALL LEAD". Season 3 had several clunkers, but to me, this was by far the worst.

- Why did you become a trekkie? One of my eyebrows is slightly pointier than the other and a girl and boy in second grade made fun of me by calling me Mr. Spock so I checked out the show.

I'm not sure many people still consider themselves "Trekkies" or even "Trekkers". They consider themselves "Fans of science fiction" who are quite fond of Star Trek.

They key is to get them to come to you on your terms and not to go to them on their terms because the "mainstream" or the "general public" usually wants crap. It it wasn't true we wouldn't have stuff like The Karddasians and the Housewives of Bevery HIlls or 30 police shows that are the exact same show. I mean we would have some because everyone likes some guilty pleasures but we clearly have to much of it. I actually prefer though how though we also now have tons of basically cult shows on tv because of just how many shows are being made without the restrictions of network tv which means they can be more creative than maybe most shows could sneak in, back in the past.

I've made some good friends (in fact, two of my very best friends I met because I noticed them reading Star Trek novels in middle school and said something to them. That was 30 years ago, and those guys are still like brothers to me now). I've had decades of entertainment provided to me. I've found a fascinating hobby.
- How has it been a burden if at all? A vocal minority of the fandom can be depressingly negative, self-centered and foul, and it causes terrible splits within fandom and fan communities. Live and let live. Seems to be a forgotten staple of peaceful co-existence.
- Why did you become a trekkie? My dad introduced me to TOS back in the 70's in its storied syndication run. I was probably not much more than a toddler- but it caught my attention and imagination immediately.
- Why might be the main reason for trekkies becoming less of their own thing? Not sure this matters to me. I've never really cared about the "culture of Trekkies..." I'd enjoy the franchise if it were only me, and I'd enjoy it just the same if every human on Earth was into it. For me, it's pretty much an internalized experience. It's fun to share and talk about it...but that isn't even close to my favorite part of the experience.
- Where do you see them going in 5,10,20 yrs. The age of the "angry fan on the internet" calls this into question a bit, otherwise I think it would be very predictable: I don't see Star Trek going anywhere. It's been around for 50 years and had peaks and valleys. It's engrained in the cultural consciousness to some extent. There will always be a version of it around. As to how the fans interrelate...that's a different story. Fans used to primarily gather at conventions and celebrate. Now they primarily gather online and gripe. Very different worlds.

- Is there anything that makes you want to not be a trekkie? Negativity within the fandom...but that only makes me not want to interact with people in fandom. It would not make me want to abandon my own feelings toward the franchise.
- What was the worst episode in the OG series in your opinion if any ( this ones for fun). Assuming you mean "worst episode of The Original Series"...I'd have to say "Turnabout Intruder." Even "And The Children Shall Lead" and "Plato's Stepchildren" have some redeeming quality that makes me revisit them.
