Reactions to Ted Cruz choosing Carly Fiorina as his running mate prior to being nominated? Actually with the delegate distributions it's impossible for Cruz to win the nomination on the first ballot.

It shows a lot of gall to the established process and even to a degree to the voters (since they've already denied him a first ballot win) but it's also always nice to give the voters more information to consider, let alone inform them ahead of time about such an important choice.

The pick seems to solidify Cruz's strengths and weaknesses, especially reinforcing that he would be an outsider and try to change the system and stick to his beliefs rather than what can seem more advantageous politically (like a pick that would more clearly give a ticket balance in more ways). Cruz and Fiorina seem a much better choice than Trump in terms of who would push for positive change and against governmental favoritism and crony capitalism.

Cruz picked someone who drove Hewlett Packard into the ground and had about 3% of the vote among Republicans.

I could see pulling this kind of stunt, if the choice was some kind of game changer or rising star in the party. But Fiorina is neither of those. This was just a desperate plea for attention.

Since Cruz has already been denied a first ballot win at the convention by the voters, I see this as little more than a desperate plea for attention. But then, Cruz and Fiorina are both corny-capitalists deeply in the pockets of Wall Street, so maybe it's a match made in heaven.

So much for that idea. They could have made impressive though risky candidates but too many of the party voters spoke differently, favoring bluster over principle.

Cruz was eliminated mathematically before Indiana. I honestly don't know what the hell he was thinking. But then, John Kasich was mathematically eliminated long ago and look how long he hung in.

I was surprised John held on as long as he did. He won Ohio, which wasn't too much of a surprise (though I admit I thought for sure Trump was going to get it. His campaign canvased everything here), but he lost everywhere else. I guess he did it to try and take some of Trump's steam so one of the others could catch up, but to no avail.

I also thought a Trump victory in Ohio was a shoe-in. I guess Ohioans really like their governor. I don't see why, he hasn't impressed me all that much. But I will admit that compared to our two previous governors he's definitely a step up, though that's an extremely low bar!

Kasich is pretty popular. He's conservative enough to keep the Republicans, but he's moderate enough to snap up some independent votes. He's done a few good things that liberals like, too, like expanding Medicaid when we really needed it. He even fought the Ohio General Assembly when they tried to push it down. So he gets some grudging respect from me for that, though I wouldn't actually vote for him in any office. I'm quite liberal.

Yeah, he is the least scary, though it's not really saying much. Huntsman was quite a bit more progressive than Kasich is, it's just that Kasich seems to be of the "settled law is settled law" mindset. He's against same sex marriage (though he refused to foster legislation to reject it once the Supreme Court made it the law of the land), against same sex adoption, and helped work to defund Planned Parenthood in Ohio. He's also in favor of punishing women who have abortions. So he only seems reasonable, I think, because of his competitors, who are all batshit looney tunes to the extreme. He's very hard right, but he's nicer about it, which works to soften his image.

Bingo. I was pissed when he got that Planned Parenthood bill through, and his stance on same sex adoption is abominable and regressive. Hopefully, he'll be out next election. I miss Ted Strickland. He was a good governor.

I'll give him a ticket. He had his campaign robocalling my house, so I gave him a cease and desist notice. It comes with a $25 notification and processing fee and a monthly $100 late fee on any outstanding balance. Consent is automatic. He is now $225 in debt. I wouldn't want someone running my country who can't even pay his own debts.
