Crusoe - Does anyone care?

Sakrysta

This show is SOOOOO dull! They obviously put so much work into the location. Did anyone put any work into how to make it tell interesting stories? Because right now, I feel like someone gave Peter Benchley's Amazon a bigger budget and then sucked all the life out of it. :p At least PBA was campy and weird. Crusoe is just dull as powder so far.

Maybe it will get better, but I'm not holding out much hope. Has anyone found something to like in this show?

i REALLY enjoy this show. It's people on a deserted island. No cop chases, no heartpounding music to amp a phony sequence.

And I really enjoy the backstory being revealed in bits and pieces.

It's shot well, and I like the cast and the whole "Swiss Family Robinson Crusoe" kind of approach with what he's built and invented on the island. The sets and concepts are inventive and enjoyable.

A number of friends have found Crusoe to be a surprisingly good diversion on Friday nights. In an "MTV edited by meth freaks" TV world, it's nice that a TV version of a classic is paced like a novel.

Decelerate and enjoy.

I'm all for slowed-down, more cerebral television. I just can't seem to find a reason to care about the characters. And I have a real hard time buying both the extent of what he's created on the island as well as what he's found there - all within the first two (or three if you count the pilot as two) episodes. They're pushing my suspension of disbelief too far too quickly.

I confess, I haven't read the book. Was he really the MacGyver of his age? Did he really find a way to string a miles-long zip line, then find a way to ride it and land without breaking half the bones in his body? Did he really have all that gunpowder lying around from the shipwreck? Did he really have pirate women offering to fight and best him? Waste five oranges for a half-cup of juice? How long has he been on this island that not only did he develop the need to squeeze multiple oranges at once - but took the time to invent a gadget to do it?

I like the flashbacks, but not much else. It seems like it will be a very hit or miss type of show. Some episodes might be great, others dull. Unfortunately, the pilot wasn't a hit. I really didn't like the whole pirates storyline. I really didn't like any of the story, besides the aforementioned flashbacks. The characters themselves have nice personalities, but the story just plain sucks.

COUGH LOST RIP OFF COUGH!

Sorry.. I had something in my throat there.

I heard the ratings weren't very good last week.

I tuned in to see the two-hour pilot and it lost me after 15 minutes. I eventually decided to watch something else.

I'm surprised it took this long for someone to start a thread.

This is the kind of show that needed some stunt casting!

"It's time for us to take control of this island..." (puts on sunglasses) "...before the island takes control of us."

YYYYEEEEAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

The concept seemed like a pretty good idea to me, but twenty minutes into the pilot and I couldn't watch anymore. It felt like I was watching the sixth or so episode of the series, not the pilot. Why didn't they start off with Crusoe arriving on the island? Why did it feel like I was watching a teaser that never ended?

eh, it's nothing special, but entertaining enough on a friday night, or a saturday afternoon with the DVR if I miss it...

Did anybody else feel that the soundtrack in that premiere seemed lifted straight from "Pirates of the Caribbean"? Maybe that's changed in subsequent episodes, since the premiere was a pirate oriented story.

I tried the first episode but bailed at the commercial break. Too cheesy, too pitched to kids. The actors are boring. The politically correct handling of Friday is just annoying to anyone who has an inkling of history. The pirates are silly beyond belief. Fortunately the ratings suck so it will soon be gone and hopefully replaced by something better.

I kept waiting for Captain Jack Sparrow to appear but was really disappointed when he didn't.

I watched. It isn't really on the top of my list for a tv show. I could probably go a very long time without caring if I watched an episode.

Yeah, it could use some Darth Horatio. Season ending Cliff hanger-Darth Horatio finds out that Dick Cheney is his father.

The pilot was ludicrous but also mildly amusing. I don't see how they can sustain the premise of Crusoe never being able to return home though. They have to have different people discover the island each week since they only have two people on the island. But at the same time, doing this undermines the main story. I give it one season. Dunno if I'll keep watching.
