CrownVic wheel upgrade, finally!

Got them installed this afternoon. I’ll post better pics after I give the car a good wash.

Needs a good wash. Seems while at work my car is a target for feathered dive bombers.

Looking at this pic I just realized mylicence plate holder is cracked. I’ll have to replace it. I’ve already ordered a new one.

I replaced my cracked licence plate holder. Took the opportunity to give the licence plate a good cleaning and straightening out.

I’ve had these new wheels about a week and a half now and I really like them!

I’ve noticed they don’t look near as dark as some online photos make them look. I’ve seen them in varying light conditions now and the darkest the spokes ever look is a sort of darker chrome. They certainly never look almost black.

Yeah, I’m liking them more every day.

It’s interesting the difference a few millimetres and a fraction of an inch can make. My old wheels were 17x7.5 w. 42 offset vs. the new which are 17x8 w. 35 offset. The new wheels are only 1/2 inch wider and have a mere 7mm. more offset. In addition the new wheels are more concave with a more noticeable lip. Those differences along with a more substantial finish somehow add up to a wheel the manages to look bigger than those it replaces.

The new ones are also easier to clean.

18in. versions of these wheels would look killer, but 18x8.5 rather than 18x8 w. 35 offset would poke out too much for my liking. Too bad.

Updated pic with newly installed red caliper covers. I picked them up from MGP last year on a Black Friday sale. The silver Ford oval logo and faux screw heads are actually engraved. Looks very cool up close.

Caliper covers instead of painting? I wasn't even aware there were covers.

I'm a fan of the red ones myself.

Not from my own X5, but the rims and the colors are the same

Painting your calipers can be quite inconvenient as your car is temporarily out of commission. Getting replacement red calipers isn’t cheap. And covers actually cut down on brake dust contaminating your wheels.

I also like the clean look. I was undecided until a few years ago when I saw a local guy with the same covers on his 2011 Mustang. It looked quite good and convinced me they were the way to go.
