I honestly didn't mind the music solely for trailer purposes, but I agree that shouldn't be the vibe of the main soundtrack.

I don't mind that this will be in English, it makes sense. This is an American co-production and was written by an American, and intended for release on Netflix, an American streaming service. From what I've read, some of the actors involved, including Michelle Yeoh and Donnie Yen, the two leads, speak English better than they do Mandarin (which is what was spoken in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) anyway.

Netflix is also trying VERY hard to expand their global presence, though. Both Marco Polo last year and Narcos this year were part of that initiative, as well as other Spanish-language things they have in development. This is probably another piece of that.

But they can't win. People either complain about "Marco Polo" having English dialogue and non-Mongolian actors (among other things), or in the case of "Narcos", which had predominantly Spanish dialogue, people either complained about the amount of subtitles they had to read (in the case of the American viewers) or the non-Columbian actors cast and non-Columbian Spanish dialect spoken (Spanish viewers).

So at this point, Netflix is probably like "Screw this, we're gonna do what we want. People are gonna complain anyway, but the international audience will still like seeing these characters again."

The two leads speak Cantonese better than English.
It was based on a chinese story, written in chinese by a chinese man. The original movie was in mandarin and the Chinese film market is the fastest growing film market, set to take over from the US by 2020. It makes more sense.

Thats why I like it when films do what Hunt for Red October did. They started in Russian and then after a push in to Sean Connery mouth, they switched to English. Kind of honoring the original language but giving the English that American audiences want.

I also agree, I'm glad were getting to see more of these characters.

The original Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon had nice fight scenes but it was also full of beautiful visual poetry, along with good cast, beautiful music and also decent amount of depth in its characters..not to mention solid direction from Ang Lee.

Judging from the trailer I have my doubts the sequel will live up to its predecessor and might drag the first ones good name down. And the trailer music is terrible indeed.
Still since I am fan of the genre, Michelle Yeoh and Asian TV/movies in general, I am willing to give it a fair change..

This movie isn't being made for the Chinese market. (Not primarily, anyway.)
