I think the spinning part of Discovery either spreads the spores or dissipates heat (which wouldn't make sense) I can't remember which. The sails fit really well with the vertical movement and would really highlight the full body flipping. Your version would probably look best ripping off Yamato 2199's warp effect, which looks like the ship is rising from or sinking into a sea as it moves in space. Maybe it's the live action Space Battleship Yamato, I can't remember.

I know nothing about the whole spinning thing other than in the show the ship did it. To me this ship would just disappear and reappear at its destination. Like jumping or folding space.
