Spoilers Crisis on Infinite Earths Discussion (CW Event Spoiler Thread)

If you've ever wondered if websites deliberately make spoilers unavoidable, the answer is yes.

Completely spoiled, it was all over the friggin internet and I was an hour away from watching it. Ugh!

I really like that the color change to Earth-96 Superman's "S"-shield (a detail I admittedly missed on first viewing in my giddy excitement) implies a happier status quo for him than the Kingdom Come inspired original. I'm assuming on his reformed Earth, the Daily Planet massacre never happened. A much more satisfying place to leave the Reeve/Routh Superman (or whatever amalgamation or variant you believe the character represents).
That was great. I was happy about that.

But what about 90s Flash? :(

I had to google that one since apparently it was before my time, so for a change I *don't* feel old and therefore I approve! ;)

I originally assumed it was Beppo the Super-Monkey from the old Silver Age comics, which makes me even older! :)

As for the "first hero" thing, I doesn't really stand up to close examination in a world which now contains Batman and Superman, but I'll let it slide since it works on a meta level, which was obviously what they were going for. Oliver was the first CW hero, even though they could hardly have the President spell it out in those terms.

So, now the Lane-Kents have two sons rather than one, and from the way she talks it sounds like they're both a little older than someone you wrap in a blanket and shoot into space from Argo.

That and the rehabilitation of Lex Luthor's public image both smack of set-up for the Lois and Clark series coming up.

I didn't say you weren't correct. You may well be. But your assertion that pre-COIE Earth-2 and post-COIE Earth-2 are different is, for the moment, speculation on your part.

We literally see each of the worlds in the New Multiverse be born before they're explicitly identified.

My first thought was, "Beppo?" My second was, "Ooh, I hope it's Detective Chimp." Gleek never would've occurred to me. (Oh, sweet Beebo, please do not let this lead to the Wonder Twins appearing...)

Yeah, we won't know until Stargirl premieres. Still, they're free to rewrite Earth-2's history however they want. But it'd be cool and interesting if they actually took advantage of the established Earth-2 backstory and characters for Stargirl.

Either way, though, it means we'll only have a window of a few months in which all the CW DC series are set on a single Earth.

An apparent continuity/conceptual glitch somebody pointed out elsewhere: Why is Hoechlin's Supes surprised to hear he now has two sons? He wasn't one of the Paragons, so shouldn't he remember his "new" Earth-Prime history? Even if J'onn restored his knowledge of the Crisis, surely that wouldn't erase his existing memories.

Because those are the Earths the current shows take place on.

As I mentioned, I suspect it's probably because all eight individuals whose efforts recreated the Multiverse were from Earth-1 and Earth-38, so their combined focus combined their worlds. That doesn't explain Earth-BL, though. It could be because they were working with BL shortly before the end and thus he was fresh in their minds, but they were also working with Superman-96 at the same time.

It would've been cool if Jefferson had turned out to be the Paragon of Humanity. But I guess they have long-term plans for Ryan Choi to take over as the Atom when Ray leaves, so they had to introduce him.

That is a real world explanation, not an "in world" explanation.

Jefferson as a paragon would have been much better. They could introduce Ryan in another episode rather than the biggest crossover ever.

It's interesting what they did with Hoechlin's family. I would guess, and I'm not sure that Jonathan is still his son, a natural son, and the other son is adopted, either Demian Wayne, which I think would be interesting since Batman isn't around, or maybe even Christopher Kent, who was Zod's son.

I’d have to agree with that, missed opportunity, especially with the possibility to build an audience among those who watch the other shows but might not watch BL.

My CW was screwed up last night, so I ended up having to watch the finale this morning, and I was pretty happy with it.
I was a little surprised they had Oliver apparently die again, I figured he'd at least stick around as The Spectre until the Arrow finale.
I was against them merging the Earths, since it felt unnecessary to me at this point, but now that they have I'm curious to see how they're going to handle things. Especially on Black Lightning, since that's the one that's been the most isolated from the others.
Lex becoming a hero was a fun little twist, I'm curious to see how that'll all play out on Supergirl.
Bringing back Sarah Diggle was nice. I wonder if we'll see an adult version of her on Green Arrow and the Canaries?

I forgot to mention the two Flashes scene, that was by far the most surprising cameo in the whole thing. I thought the most acknowledgment we might get was clip from the movies, I did not expect to see one the actors make an appearance.

From the Lena flashback episode they already seem to have retconned when Superman went public as being MUCH more recent than previously indicated. Which, if deliberate and not an oversight seems odd given Crisis being right around the corner would have given them a free pass to retcon whatever they please.
And even in the comics, Batman has always kinda coasted by on the whole "urban legend" thing, even though logically he should be a very well know public figure.

...So if you squint, it all kinda tracks.

I sat forward in shock and put my hand over my mouth, to keep myself from exclaiming aloud and breaking my own policy against talking during shows/movies.

(I did break it during the second season finale of 24, however, when Mia Kirshner's Mandy character showed up again in the closing moments. The "Oh my God!" was out before I could stop it.)

The point of this crossover was never to combine Earths or make drastic changes to the status quo of the Arrowverse's currently-airing "core" series or the specific Earths on which they are set.

Just repeating this, as one of many such posts emphatically stating guesses as facts. Earth-Prime disagrees with your definitive statement, again. Earths combined, particularly the ones that our show heroes were from.

Don't think the writers will actually reflect that as much as would probably be warranted, but they DID combine the Earths in question. Appears to have been selective, and multi-verse just rebooted with new variants anyway, but 'our' Earth-1 and -38 are gone, smashed into Earth-Prime.
