DENDERMONDE, Belgium (Reuters) – Prosecutors charged a 20-year-old unemployed Belgian with murdering two babies and a woman and wounding 13 others in a frenzied knife attack at a creche that stunned Belgium.

I do hope no-one is making light of this incident. The footage of terrified parents running to the scene praying their child was still alive & not injured was very harrowing to watch. Brought back horrible memories of the hundreds of Dunblane parents running down the street towards the school in sheer panic.

I truly don't have the words to describe what I feel about murderers like Thomas Hamilton or this latest individual. To go after the most innocent in society usually to exact some kind of revenge, just heinous crimes.

As a Belgian, I can tell you the entire country was shocked by this event. The murderer, a 20-year old male called Kim De Gelder, wanted to kill as many babies as he could (he had a plan of other creches in his bagpack).
His lawyer said the guy's parents asked for him to be committed to a closed psychiatric clinic when the guy was fifteen, but his psychiatrist thought that wasn't necessary.
Another psychiatrist, who was interviewed about this case on the news, thought it was possible the guy went nuts because he had to live with a girl's name his entire life. It might have been cause for identity problems.
If this guy ever hits the streets again, he'll probably be lynched within half an hour; that's how angry everybody is here.

Another psychiatrist, who was interviewed about this case on the news, thought it was possible the guy went nuts because he had to live with a girl's name his entire life. It might have been cause for identity problems...

I'd say that the fact that he looks like a chick might have been the cause of some identity problems, myself.

This is incredibly tragic and sad. As a father of a two year-old with another due in March, my prayers go out to the victims' families.

Really? I thought "Kim" was a fairly common name for men in that part of the world.

^^ It's not that uncommon in the US, I've known/known of a few.

What a terrible story, I wonder if he was trying to disfigure them more than kill them? Just seems like you'd have a higher body count if you were trying to outright kill them. I guess Tina Fey got her scar from some guy just coming up and slicing her in her front yard when she was 5. It's so hard to fathom doing such an act, like the Taliban throwing acid in those schoolgirls faces, something about attacking children gets to me more than other heinous acts.

Really? I thought "Kim" was a fairly common name for men in that part of the world.

It isn't as far as I know. In fact, I know of only one, and even that one is an abbreviation of "Hakim".
It may be possible "Kim" is so strongly considered as female here because of Kim Clijsters, and because there are a lot of Kimberly's to be found here.

Many Kims in the US are shortened from Kimball....and most Kims I've known actually had no issues about identity.. This simply is just a homicidal maniac, his name didn't make him that way, using such a simple and stupid reason as an excuse for what he did shows how moronic many media "experts" really are. It may take YEARS of psycological testing to find out the real reason he did the unspeakable.
