Creative Screenwriting Magazine does an hour-long podcast I love with screenwriters on their films. This week is an audience Q&A with Kurtzman & Orci and it's 90 minutes. I just downloaded but haven't listened yet but wanted to give folks a heads-up.

You can get it off iTunes or download the .mp3 here.

Just listened to it while going for a walk. Very insightful. A lot of it is their writing process and how they got the job and came up with the plot. They did get blasted on plotholes but weren't stumped. They had a explanation for every question. They said they are signed on for a sequel if Paramount greenlights it.

Another interesting thing they said was they had a whole subplot explaining that The Kelvin crippled the Naruada and Klingons captured Nero & co. They were in a Klingon prison for the 25 years and broke out when it was time to catch Spock and the red matter. That wouldve explained what they were up to during that time and why the 47 Klingon ships were attacked. It was cut for pacing (it took us away from Kirk/Spock for too long) but they said it will be on the DVD.

Did you hear the bit about destroying Vulcan and the Enterprise!! To make you believe that nothing was safe. It was paramount that said, could you not destroy the Enterprise!

Great podcast

That was funny! I also liked that the thoughline of the film is Kirk and Spock as brothers. And how they wanted them to be adversaries before they were friends. I loved the idea of Spock/Uhura coming about because they are both heroes so they wanted Spock to get the girl since Kirk gets the Chair. And it makes Uhura the awesome girl because of course someone as smart and together as she would choose the intellectual over the "frat boy."

Kurtzman and Orci seem like cool guys. I really liked their Transformers podcast.
