Creation cancel LA Trek con in November

I'm not sure if this is the place for this but I think the word should get out. Creation's Trek Grand Slam con in November has been cancelled. They say they couldn't get new guests to attend so they're pulling it.
After booking flights and hotel (I'm flying in from Ireland), this is a kick in the teeth. There's no one who's able to appear??
There is a Firefly con the same weekend so at least we'll have that but this is hugely disappointing.

As I predicted interest in old-prime Trek is dying even quicker with the introduction of the reboot. It's hard to get an all or mostly Trek thing going right now.

And although the reboot was a good flick on it's own, the merchandising behind it was lack luster and died quickly in the stores. Unlike the Star Wars stuff that still sells well years and years after the last flick.

The lack luster mentioned above might, I repeat might, have something to do with the reboot not being as good as many thought. In my own case, and I've said this before here, while I *wanted* the reboot to be good, it wasn't. For me.

I could easily have been in the same boat as yourself Sagart.
I am from Ireland and was constantly checking for updates on this con. A con in L.A. sounded like a fantastic idea.
Although I have been to the Las Vegas convention while the experience was there and felt that experience couldn't be topped. So I was hesitant and lucky I was.

I've been burned by conventions before that took my cash and then ended up cancelling.
You obviously have learned this now but never, ever book a convention that has no guests announced two months before event.
There was something seriously wrong here. I kept checking the page to look for guest announcements and really coudln't beliveve how no information was available about any guests attending, very fishy indeed.

I would suggest they hit a quandry with this.
They have stated they were looking to get as many of the Trek XI actors together as possible for this con and that was the whole theme of this event. This is why they chose L.A. to make it even more convenient for the actors.

What those Creation guys have failed to realize is how difficult and expensive it would be to get up and coming hollywood actors/actresses to a Star Trek convention.
Theres no chance in hell they will get Zoe Saldana or Simon Pegg or even Chris Pine.
The agents of talent like that will rally against any appearances at a convention.
Stars of $400 million dollar making movies do not do conventions apart from possibly Quinto who has shown up in the past but it may be a different story now.
They are also very busy even if all of the above reasons do not add up.

Anyways, if I were you I'd enjoy the L.A. holiday and forget about those Creation thieves. L.A. rules hard even without Star Trek in fact more so!.

Yeah, I think the economics of a Trek movie-themed Con got the better of them. The article also mentions adding 3 other ST themed conventions elsewhere in the country so I think pronouncing ST cons dead is a bit premature.

Thanks for that but I'm actually also going to the Firefly con that is on the same weekend (same hotel) so I'll enjoy that (as long as it isn't cancelled as well!!). I'll enjoy LA and, if of push comes to shove, there's always Disneyworld!!

I've been toying with the idea of driving down to down to San Francisco to visit the Star Trek Convention there in January. (I live in Seattle.) If I do, it will be my first attendance at one.

The bigger conventions are dieing out. Which may not be a bad thing. Their costs are extravagant and outrageous. Smaller shows, or autograph only shows, are seeing a huge boon right now thanks to the economy, which has convinced a lot of talent to do them. The number of first time celebrities to do Trek ones recently is astounding. Catherine Hicks, Christopher Lloyd, Stephen Collins, Malcolm McDowell... lots of firsts. And some otherwise difficult guests are doing shows too. Just not the big time creation style events.
