Crazy theory about Nero (spoilers)

Well, what if Nero first (from his point of view) went back in time to attack Vulcan? Kirk stopped him, so Nero went further back in time to attack Earth and kill Kirk. Nero's ship was damaged from the battle at Vulcan, which gave Kirk's dad and the Kelvin the chance to kill Nero once and for all.

That would mean that apart from the Kelvin/Nero battle, nothing we see in this movie really happens. I already like your idea!

This would also explain JJ's statement that everything would be fitting into canon after all and the two Enterprises.

Not necessarily. It could be a predestination paradox. Nero goes back in time, gets stopped by Kirk, so he goes further back in time to kill Kirk. Then he is killed by Kirk's father. But the attack changes the time line enough that Kirk is in the right spot to kill Nero in the first place.

So the event which is erased is Nero's ship going back in time. But that's the only event which is erased. Nero is still defeated twice. This is possible since going back in time protects Nero's ship from changes in the timeline. His own history is not altered. Traveling back in time is the same thing as traveling to an alternate reality which is identical at an earlier period of time in his own reality.

Another crazy possibility: What if each arm of the "space octopus" can go to a different space and time location. Like the time-ship in the second season new Doctor Who episode. Then there is no problem: killing Nero's ship kill all his arms at once.

I was thinking. At the beginning of the movie, Nero goes back in time and attacks Earth, but Kirk's dad saves the day. However, why would Nero then go forward in time and attack Vulcan instead? Why not go back in time again and attack earth again?

So Nero experiences events in the opposite order as Kirk does. At least that's my crazy theory about the movie.

You're right it is a crazy theory, and it makes my head hurt.

^^ because people in TV or movies hardly ever revise a plan to try it again until they get it right.

Why didn't the Borg go back in time again in First Contact and find a better way to prevent Cochrane from making his flight? ...and again, and again...until they succeed...

Umm...

Because the only Borg left alive were the ones on the sphere, and the sphere itself got destroyed once Enterprise arrived, and from that only a few survied, somehow getting onto the Enterprise, only to then be defeated?

What -- and the rest of the Borg in the Galaxy knew nothing about this plan?

Granted, the rest of the Borg won't know WHY the plan failed, but they would know that it failed for some reason. The plan was very good in concept and it should have worked. I would think it would be worth trying again with a modification to a variable or two (because logically the "exact plan" would be doomed to fail in the exact same manner every time it was attempted).

They were probably to busy listening to the queen bitch about Picard killing her, and then geting their asses kicked by Species 8472.

That or they only had one sphere capable of time travel.

The words "not necessarily built for time travel" were used in the May 27 TrekMovie article where the ship was first mentioned. I'm not sure it's been nailed down any more firmly than that.
