crazy hypothetical thought about the Master (end of time pt 1 spoiler)

Ok then, this occured to me this morning and I wanted to run it past people.

So we all saw at the end of part 1 that everyone on Earth became the Master, 6 billion Masters...

While I love it, a few thoughts...

1. If any of these Masters die they will no doubt regenerate, but would they all regenerate into the same man? I guess this is a wider question about whether a regeneration is a fixed or completely random. So would all the Masters regenerate into, say, Alan Rickman, or would one turn into rickman, another PAtterson Joseph, another Alexander Siddig, another Hugh Grant etc etc...?

I guess I'm pondering a situation where we have three different Masters who are all the 15th (or whatever) Master rather than the 14th/15th/16th?

I'm wondering as well if RTD will kill off Simm's Master and have him not regenerate again wilst leaving Moffat the notion in his back pocket that however the 6 billion Masters issue is resolved, one got away by virtue of dying before he could revert back to his human form?

I could be thinking about this too much...certainly my head hurts now

Why only one? The master race just became an unlimited master supply with that reasoning. Just like the Void became one for Daleks and Cybermen. No matter how often the entire race is vanquished. there can always be one more now.

If you feed the Master after midnight, he turns into Ronnie Corbett.

If the original Master dies, by having so many clones it leaves a way fro him to return. If everyone is changed back then somehow one person would not be (maybe the original Master sheilded one of his clones just incase..).

As for regeneration, we are not sure if the original Master even can regenerate give his post-resurection condition, let alone his clones. Makes you wonder what # the Simm's master is. We know the timelords gave the master a new set of regenerations then he ran off and made himself human, so Jacobi maybe #1 and Simm's #2.

"Now settle down I just need to tell you a little story before I destroy the earth..."

My impression had been that Jacobi was actually the second resurrected Master, and that the Time-Lord reincarnation regenerated himself into a child to better hide out at the end of the universe. I mean, we already know from Chantho that he was there for at least 17 years, and the story of him being an orphaned child on a beach is curiously mysterious for a cover-story.

I don't buy the whole child thing, I't is more likly an implanted memory for the Yana persona. John Smith also had such implanted memorys in Human Nature, if I recall. I would find it hard to believe that Master could choose to regenerate into a child anyways, not sure if he has a choice in regeneration.

Good questions! It would be an interesting avenue to explore. You could have multiple Masters running around each looking different. I mentioned this before, but it reminds me of Red Dwarf's "Me Squared", where Rimmer could not get along with himself. You wonder if the Master could tolerate himself. Each wanting to be in charge and all. I suspect not. Also, in a similar vein, the Master and the Rani didn't really work together so well! The Master really wants to be the solo man in charge of some master, but whacky, plan!

I suspect that most of the Master's will be put back in the bottle, so to speak. Except maybe leave the possibility open that a few got away for future stories.

I wonder if part of the reason why RTD had that line in Part 1 that Time Lords can die if they are killed before regeneration was because he knew that several of the Master clones will be blown away and killed instantly during Part 2.

Either that, or only the original Master can regenerate, if the Immortality Gate also fixed him.

Re: crazy hypothetical thought about the Master (end of time pt 1 spoi

It's also possible the device didn't change the people of Earth into full-on duplicates of the Master, but just the closest human equivalent (what he'd be if he went through a chameleon arch, but with his mind intact).

I'm conflicted but I do lean towards the orphan story being an implanted memory. The Chameleon arch on the TARDIS didn't make the Doctor regenerate, or turn him into a younger human...then again David does make a good point, it is a bit elaborate compared to the Doctor's memories of Sydney and Verity and growing up in Nottingham (then again maybe the Master's TARDIS was cleverer in that respect, there are probably way fewer holes in the Master's backstory!)

Re: crazy hypothetical thought about the Master (end of time pt 1 spoi

You're overthinking the Masters thing for the simple reason we'll never see the results, which would take years.

Who knows, I like the idea of a Master hiding out and finding a way to escape, you could even have him in the new series played by someone else and showing the Simm Master regenerating back into the new guy.

Though the Master is said to have saved Galifrey..... What if the Galifreyans are at the end of all their regenerations so they steal them all from the 6 billion masters and this allows them to finally win the time war.....

They then set the earth to right somehow and all is well with the world......

Also did the Doctor actually get shot in part one from the helicopter? How bulletproof is the doctor if he is shot with conventional firearms???? Though the Master died from one gunshot wound, unless Lucy knew EXACTLY where to shoot him.....

Re: crazy hypothetical thought about the Master (end of time pt 1 spoi

In Utopia/Sound Of Drums/Last of the Timelords, is it ever stated that the Timelords gave the Master a whole new set of regens?

Or just that they "brought him back".

Obviously the Doctor thought he could regenerate in LOTT.

Well McCoy got shot in the movie and died so he can't be that bulletproof!

Re: crazy hypothetical thought about the Master (end of time pt 1 spoi

He wasn't shot this time. A soldier knocked him down with the gun. It's hard to see, I only noticed it the second time around. Before that I was "they didn't just shoot the Doctor?!", too.

Yes, you can see that scene better in Confidential and see the soldier knock him out. Also note that in the next scene (with Wilf) the doctor is now wearing a white shirt with brown'ish tie (where before he had a an open blue shirt with not tie). So, I't looks like after he awoke he when to the Tardis and changed then moved the Tardis near Wilfs house.

It looks like the Doctor will have time to at least change his tie again as pictures show him in a different tie in part 2

Re: crazy hypothetical thought about the Master (end of time pt 1 spoi

On second viewing it occured to me that if anyone in the world was doing any activity at the moment of transformation then during that interruption could prove fatal depending on what they might have been doing, like operating a vehicle of any sorts, working with machinery, anything that if no care is taken could prove fatal. Unless the Master took this into consideration then no doubt there could be 100's dead as a result of undue care to what they may have been doing before tranformation.

Could any of these possibly regenerate, which would mean they are cloned Timelords, or would they be totally dead?

Re: crazy hypothetical thought about the Master (end of time pt 1 spoi

they'd be dead. like in FlashForward when the black-out happened.

Re: crazy hypothetical thought about the Master (end of time pt 1 spoi

No, they'd have stopped what they were doing when the Master's vision filled their heads. HE wouldn't have wanted them to die, would he? :)
