Crashed jet's pilot in good condition

One of Canada's top jet fighter pilots is in good condition in hospital following the crash of his jet in Lethbridge, Alta., on Friday.

Capt. Brian Bews ejected from his CF-18 Hornet as the plane plunged toward the ground.

He is in good spirits and his condition is stable, the Department of National Defence said in an email Saturday to CBC reporter Bryan Labby.

Whoops.

Damn. I'm glad the pilot's going to be ok; it'll be interesting to learn what happened.

The shot reminds me of the '89 MiG-29 crash at Paris.

That one turned out to be a bird strike.

As of August 2009, Martin-Baker ejection seats had saved 7289 lives.[9] They give survivors a unique tie and lapel pin. The total figure for all types of ejector seats is unknown, but might be considerably higher.

Sir James Martin saves another life.
^ Word, Martin Baker is a true hero to aviators all around the world. This guy is a true member of the Martin Baker Club!

As for the accident, looks like a possible nozzle/engine fail, look closely and you'll see one open and one closed.

Wow... Canada has an Air Force?

Ah, I kid, I kid.

Very good observation there, GA. Could mean a lot of things, but it boils down to one engine was thrusting far more than the other, which could have majorly contributed to a stall or flat spin due to the increase in yaw. I'm not sure how plausible that is, with the rather centered engines on the Hornet, but if one was afterburning and one was not that would most defiantly do it.

See if they were still using Tomcats this wouldn't have happened.
