Craig Ferguson strikes again!

I love the fact Craig Ferguson keeps a toy TARDIS on his desk and anytime a celebrity points it out, he jumps right in with the DW questions. Last night Kenneth Branagh talked about being a Doctor Who fan - there's one to throw at any elitists out there who don't take the show seriously! The man considered this generation's Laurence Olivier admits to being a Whovian and a fan of Matt Smith.

In the process, Craig introduces a rather raunchy new use of the word Dalek, and we finally get to see what his toy TARDIS can do! (He also puts in a pitch for Branagh to put Karen Gillan in one of his movies.) They tangent a bit about James Bond, including Roger Moore who is apparently a naughty fellow. I wouldn't call this R-rated, but it probably just crosses the line into NSFW territory:

More celebrity fans apparently include Helena Bonham Carter and her boyfriend, Tim Burton, according to this clip from a January Ferguson I just discovered on the above page:

(Tim Burton directing an episode of Doctor Who, maybe a Christmas special, might be quite cool. If they can get celebrity writers like Gaiman and Curtis, why not celebrity directors, too?)

Burton would only direct an episode of Who if Johnny Depp was cast as the Doctor...Murray Gold would be given the heave ho in favour of Danny Elfman and the film would mainly be about the Doctor's daddy issues...

For a one-off, it could be kind of fun ... sort of a cross between Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Sweeny Todd on the TARDIS.

Actually, clips for this episode look kind of Burton-esque.

When Doctor Who (inevitably?) does a musical episode, I"m sure they'll go knocking for a director who knows how to do it...

Karen Gillan for Lady MacBeth

Helena Bonham Carter for Rani

I've thought for a while now that Branagh would make a very good Doctor indeed. I don't believe that RTD considered Branagh for the ninth Doctor back in 2003 and 2004, and RTD wanted a big name to launch the series -- he offered the role to Hugh Grant, after all.

Branagh would be a good choice to direct, too.

^ I thought they had got married for at least decided to finally marry. Craig Ferguson is awesome, he so should get a cameo on Doctor Who ;)

Sweet Zombie Jeebus On A Pogo Stick, eighteen kinds of NO!

Not a fan are we?

A Tim Burton-directed Doctor Who episode would easily beat ratings records for the show on UK TV. I'd be all for it.

I'd also go for Branagh directing, or at least guest-starring, as well as the guy who directs the Harry Potter films.'

Bonham Carter would inevitably appear if Burton directed. By herself it might be tough, because from what I see Suranne Jones is likely to beat Carter at her own game this weekend.

As far as celebrity writers go, now we have Gaiman and Richard Curtis, my wish list includes Alan Moore (who wrote a Cyberman comic strip for DWM in the 1980s), Greg Rucka (Queen & Country) and Don Rosa (Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck).

Why Don Rosa? Because he's capable of taking two or three throwaway words of dialogue from a McDuck comic from 60 years ago and spin an intricate yarn. Imagine what he could do if someone gave him a word processor and a stack of Hartnell-era DVDs...

I was surprised that the subject of DW didn't seem to come up when he had Carey Mulligan on.

Bloody hell, how could I forget Ed Wood? Turns out there's two Burton films I like...still, I wouldn't like to see him direct an episode of DW.

It's a good thing the last Christmas special didn't have anything to do with daddy issues.

Actaully, creepy pseudo Victorian-era England, pale blond nymph on ice, sharks swimming in the fog, I'm sure he would've been on board. :)
