Cracked: 5 Movie Fan Theories That Make More Sense Than the Movie

Heh, good point. You know I'd actually forgotten Diggory was a Hufflepuff. That actually helps mine (and TVTropes') point of course: the Puffs are the nice guys, the upstanding folks... the cannon fodder.

Having Luna upgraded the Ravenclaws and I recall their ghost the Grey Lady getting something of a subplot, and of course the whole Cho Chang thing... maybe Neville really should have been a Hufflepuff, it would've given them somebody iconic.

I actually thought each of the main Gryffindors had a second house in which they could have belong. Harry was Slytherin, obviously. Hemoine was Ravenclaw. To me, Neville was Hufflepuff. I think you could make an argument for Ron. As I understand it, Hufflepuff are the friendly ones. They're simply nice people who want to be friends with everyone. Ironically, since the books play up the power of friendship, Harry would have been best suited to beat Voldemort from that House.

Slytherin - Defined by being Crafty and Sly
Ravenclaw - defined by their brains
Gryffindor - Defined by their Courage and Loyalty
Hufflepuff - Everyone else

I think it might have been better to give the one-word "loyalty" tag to Hufflepuff, emphasizing their faithfulness and doggedness - not as brave as Gryfindor or as smart as Ravenclaw or as cunning as Slytherin... but implacable and committed.

Gryffindor: Bravery
Hufflepuff: Loyalty
Ravenclaw: Intellect
Slytherin: Cunning

Basically.

When the Founders all sat around saying who they wanted, Helga Hufflepuff said she'd take the rest.
