In order to stop a weapons shipment, Annie asks a former operative for help and attracts Henry Wilcox's and her former lover Ben Mercer's attention.

^ Check it out, it's dr. Benton. :p

Actually, that's the UN Secretary General from 24, and he recruited Annie to help him track down Jack Bauer. :p

Damn...I was going to go back and edit my post and add a similar joke. You beat me to it. :(

Re: Covert Affairs (Piper Perabo, new USA series) - Discussion & Spoil

So is this show still jokey, silly and not worth bothering with?

A USA Network show is never going to be The Shield, if that's what you're asking.

Re: Covert Affairs (Piper Perabo, new USA series) - Discussion & Spoil

Yknow, I wouldn't mind a cute, quirky sci fi show on USA because at least when they do cute and quirky, it's not boring and obnoxious like when Skiffy does it. If the Covert Affairs writers and cast were assigned to Haven, for instance - that might be worthwhile!

However, USA seems determined to stick with their law enforcement theme. Another cop show!

When the national security is threatened, Annie tries to find the leak in the Senate Intelligence Committee. Meanwhile, Auggie starts working as his old unit's handler.

But it could be Burn Notice. Which this is NOT.

Bingo. :techman:

Burn Notice is still a great show. Whereas this show is just silly and contrived, with some decent action sequences thrown in.

I've kept watching it, just because there was nothing else on, really. But I agree that Gorham should really have his own show again. His is by far the most interesting character on the show - the one with the most potential. And Gorham is way too talented to be playing second chair to Piper Perabo, who is really unconvincing.

And the leak? How much ya wanna bet that the leak is the big guy's (Peter Gallagher) wife? She's got 'leak' written all over her.

Though, to be fair, Burn Notice hasn't exactly been Burn Notice lately either. Especially if the rumors of the Sam spin-off are true.

True. BUT, I'm still interested in what's going on.

Re: Covert Affairs (Piper Perabo, new USA series) - Discussion & Spoil

^ Well, I don't think there should be a Sam spin-off. That would be a huge mistake because the cast is really a good balance as-is. But I don't mind the whole underlying plot this season, with Jesse, Simon, etc.

To me, Burn Notice is still a great show with an awesome sense of humor (it doesn't take itself too seriously)...where as this one is only mildly entertaining...and a complete waste of two very talented actors - Peter Gallagher and Chris Gorham.

Re: Covert Affairs (Piper Perabo, new USA series) - Discussion & Spoil

Sam isn't getting a spinoff, just a two hour movie.

Re: Covert Affairs (Piper Perabo, new USA series) - Discussion & Spoil

^ Actually, I'm quite pleased about that. I can't say as I'm really fond of it so far, but I think the potential is there, and I think the show needs to be given more of a chance.

Re: Covert Affairs (Piper Perabo, new USA series) - Discussion & Spoil

And in this most recent episode Auggy again comes off as the more interesting character. In fact, I can recall more of his plot line than Annie's.

Auggie is assigned to track a hacker responsible for shutting down communication systems throughout the city who also happens to be his ex-girlfriend.
