CoverItLive - Please advise

I'm tempted to download the free CoverItLive software so I can join in live discussions on some political blogs. I'm leery, however, of malware and don't like downloading stuff without asking techheads what they think about it. Opinions? Thank you.

I've had a little look around, and there doesn't seem to be any bad reports on the net about this software, and since it has been running for 18 months now it is probably okay. But I've never heard of the author as this is apparently their only product, which is the only cautionary thing I see.

For future reference, malware risks depend on a few things really. I'll talk generally about this:

1. Are the authors trustworthy? Large famous long standing companies can be trusted more than small ones that have nothing to lose.

2. Are you downloading from the official source? If you get it from anywhere else, the software may have been compromised. If you are in doubt, always go to the official source.

3. Does the software require you to install other things that could be malware related? This is more often true of shareware. Reading through the terms and conditions would give some insight here.

4. Does the software create security problems of its own that could open up your computer to malware? This is often hard to determine, depending on what the software does, and you'd tend to go by the word on the street. If the software has been out for a long time, then there would have been plenty of opportunities for people to seek out and exploit any potential security hole, and reports would have gotten out.
