Voted Steve and Jane.

Jeff was hilarious but the series really tells Steve's story and as such he is a more interesting and developed character...though I don't think we never found out what he did for a job (or what Patrick did).

Jane just because she was crazy and I really liked what they did with her through the 4th season in conjunction with Oliver.

As an aside, did anyone ever seen the (thankfully) short-lived American version? It was cancelled after, like, one episode. Interestingly, it used the original show's script almost word for word, but it just didn't work in an American setting with American actors. In fact, it just seemed painfully stupid. Whereas the British version was f*cking brilliant.

Actually it went for 10 episodes. While the episodes there were copied word for word from the BBC show weren't as good as the BBC versions, though their version of "The Girl With Two Breasts" was the best of the copies and wasn't too bad. Half of the episodes were originals and without the BBC episode to compare it to they stand up much better. Look at the Office, the 1st season in the US is quite poor compared to the others because it managed to find its own feet in season 2. That might have happened with Coupling as well.

Americanization ruined Coupling, IMHO. It was awful. The only Americanization I've ever seen that was worse was the pilot for the American version of Red Dwarf (which incidentally featured Terry "Jadzia Dax" Farrell as a sexed-up female version of Cat).

And Sarah Alexander is absolutely gorgeous. ;)
Interesting factoid: She was in the "Nude Practice" sketches on the old Armstrong and Miller comedy show, a few years ago - basically, the sketches had lots of Austin Powers style "hide the nudie naughties with cunningly placed objects" tomfoolery. Except for the last few seconds of the final sketch, when Sarah and Ben Miller went full frontal.

'Tis true.

:D
And you didn't have the decency to dig out a youtube link for us all? Shame on you!:p

I am confident that any such material can be found if the one who searches has good Google-Fu. I just set the hares a-runnin'. Be the greyhound, Bob. Be the greyhound.

:D

I actually didn't hate the American Red Dwarf as much as most people. The only aspect of it that was truly unsalvagable was the American Rimmer. I think there are few actors in the entire world capable of doing what Chris Barrie did (and the few others that might be are all British as well). Craig Bierko was certainly different from Craig Charles but had his own unique comic timing to Lister that I think could have worked with time. Jane Leeves was not as good a Holly as Norman Lovett but probably better than Hattie Hayridge.

And I thought Terry Farrell was hilarious as a female Cat! It was obviously a different character from what Danny John-Jules did but it worked magnificently. I wish that they had somehow figured out a way to put Farrell onto the later seasons of the British version.

Hey daedalus, I love your new avatar even if it is a bit grainy. :D

Thx. I fixed the grainy problem and now it looks better.

Oh BTW if Sex and the City is getting a movie then Coupling should get one also. I'll settle even for a direct-to-DVD type release.

OOOOO...MUCH better!

And yes, I would love to have a Coupling movie, direct-to-DVD or not, but I doubt it will happen considering how bloody busy Steven Moffat will be from now to...the end of the time.

Where can you see the Am-pilot of Red Dwarf? Is this one of those illegal downloads thing? I just bought the box set of the entire series and I'm pretty sure it's not on there.

I know they were trying to get the rights, but couldn't in time for the DVDs. I assume it's probably up on youtube somewhere.

~edit~

OK, here's a youtuble link. Skip forward a minute or two, cos that's just a clip from the original version.
