A time-travelling telephone box and mutant cyborgs bent on extermination were part of a Canterbury couple's Doctor Who wedding day.
Sci-fi buffs Rob Wilson and Lisa Strickland tied the knot yesterday at their Rolleston home in front of close family and friends – and a replica of the Tardis from the television series about a time-travelling doctor.
There was even an appearance by the show's most enduring villains – the evil Daleks whose catch-cry is "exterminate".
But their dastardly plot to rule the world was momentarily foiled when the radio-controlled Dalek ring-bearer broke down halfway up the aisle.

Would've been funny.

This is awesome. Wish I'd thought of that! I doubt my hubbs would have gone along with it though. :(

Oh, how sweet. Good for them. :) I had a vaguely Trek-related wedding - well James Darren sang a couple of songs from his CD - but that was it.

I don't think I'd have a Doctor Who themed wedding.

Best case scenario: The bride keeps wanting to kiss the eccentric party crasher.

Worst case scenario: Fiance is killed by the Raknoss.
OR
Time-eating pterodactyls kill everyone because one of your relatives didn't die.

I wouldn't have a Doctor Who themed wedding, but an anniversary or birthday party? Oh HELL yeah. It would be made all the more bizarre by being here in Texas, where very few people even know what (or who?) Doctor Who is.

My best friend had a Doctor Who theme for his 30th birthday party. It included Doctor Who charades; guests dressed as the 11th Doctor, Amy, & Rose; pictures of all 11 Doctors on the table; gold pastic cups turned upside down and turned into Dalek centerpieces; a 7-foot TARDIS facade; a 3-foot replica of Cassandra; and a cake design as the Van Gogh painting from "The Pandorica Opens."

My Mom clipped a wedding picture from the paper to show me once because the groom dressed like Ten.

I like the idea of a Who-themed birthday party. Half of my friends have never seen the show, though, so it would be a real challenge.
