Countdown #3 Preview (Spoilers)

Yeah no kidding...I am getting more and more excited as each day passes...good bad or indifferent, whatever the end product winds up being, I am looking forward to this movie.

...NO! KRYPTON!

Now all we need is a doomsday weapon and a time machine, and we'll be ready.

And a pod for baby Spock. ;)

And if you read those spoilers below the scans...
of the Narada seems to be somehow connected to Borg tech. 'A foe that everyone has heard of but Kirk did not encounter.' Nanoprobes could explain Narada restructuring from what is seen in the book. If this is so, I wonder if it will be referenced in the film in any way?

Aside from a bit too much similarity to ST VI, I am very much liking the backstory on this....should make for an interesting 'bad guy!' Damn, the romulans are goona be cool again...first time since the original show.

And having a romulan character without the stupid Spock hairdo will be a welcome change.

Again...awesome and I'll be getting the TPB when it comes out and be reading it in the theatre before the movie comes out! It does seem to be getting more intense with each issue and there is only one left.

Is the TPB not coming out until opening day or something?

I wanna read it tooooooo!

I don't know. I guess these things aren't my cup of tea. You could fly a Borg cube through the plot holes. The whole story seems to be moving too fast for what's happening, too.
Did Romulus get destroyed because the star has gone supernova and the phenomenon is unfolding? Or, was what happened to Romulus just because of a hiccup by the star on the way to its ultimate explosion? Is there still time to stop the star and save the universe?
And, if the star has done its stuff, then the Martha and the Vandellas lyrics, "Nowhere to run to, baby. Nowhere to hide," come to mind.

Nero also seems to have some incredibly misplaced anger and weird logic.

What do you see as being STVI-like? I haven't picked up on that. Then again, I'm not reading the whole thing until it comes out in TPB. But agreed on your other comments.

The only thing I'm not so sure on is Nero leaping to the conclusion that the Federation was trying to encroach on Romulan territory; seemed so out of left field.

[Garak]He assumed that because that's exactly what the Romulans would have done...[\Garak]

That's probably it, combined with a mistrust/antipathy for the Federation for not making the Vulcans help prevent the mess in the first place.

i hope it's not the borg. i'm kinda tired of the borg.

It does seem lazy. Why couldn't the Narada just be a massive mining ship to start with? Seems plausible.
*cough* Red Dwarf *cough*

Well, let's not forget that the Romulans weren't exactly fretting over the whole thing, either. There's blame all around. Starting with the Romulans themselves. That's why I agree with Rat Boy.
Also, why would Nero think the Feds want Romulan space, when that's exactly all that's probably left there? Space, no planets. Further, the Feds have enough to worry about if this star has started to do what Spock said it would do than to make a territory grab. Didn't the Romulans learn anything about the Federation during the war with the Dominion?

Agreed, there is a lot of blame to go around, but the Federation essentially provided themselves as a target for his anger when they showed up to 'help.' You make a point about the validity of assuming that the Federation is trying to grab territory too. I tend to think that if that's not what he thinks, then perhaps from his point of anger he thinks that the Federation wanted the Empire to die. They've never exactly been pals, even when fighting a mutual enemy and the Romulan way is one of suspicion.

Since I haven't actually read the whole thing yet, I can't really address anything specifically. You may be right, I'm just trying to reconcile what I know.

We are of course assuming Nero is acting in a rational manner by this point, he's been hurt and now he's lashing out. I'm guessing he is also going to do away with the Praetor and Senators as well, so I don't think the Romulans themselves are getting off too lightly either.
